Zachary Augustus "Zach" McGrath

1985 - 2022

Zachary "Zach" Augustus McGrath, 36, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

Zach was born Nov. 14, 1985, to Lawrence "Larry" and Mary McGrath in Mountain Home, Arkansas. After Zach graduated from Mountain Home High School in 2004, he went on to attend Indiana State University on a full basketball scholarship, while later graduating from the University of Arkansas in 2008.

Zach started playing basketball at a young age and became the starting point guard for the Mountain Home Bomber's basketball team. In the off season, Zach played for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team, The Arkansas Hawks. The Hawks quickly became a second family for Zach where he gained lifelong friends.

Zach's dream was to play basketball in college for a Division 1 school and that dream came true for him in 2004, when he played point guard for the Indiana State Sycamores. One of Zach's fondest memories was of he and his brother, Cody, playing countless hours of basketball in their parent's driveway growing up. Zach was a true athlete and could pick up any sport and quickly excel in it.

During his college years, Zach loved playing intramural sports, anything competitive for his fraternity sigma chi and golf. After graduating with a Degree in Business and Finance, Zach started in 2008 wholesaling insurance, securities and alternative investment products to the financial industry. Zach had long careers at Jackson National Life Insurance and most recently The Pacific Financial Group in Nashville, Tennessee.

Zach had a big infectious smile that could light up any room and one of the kindest hearts. He loved giving fist pumps to anyone that would take one and to see the smile it brought to their face. Zach loved making others feel accepted and loved.

Zach was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Joseph and Ruthanne Kratochvil and paternal grandparents Raymond and Dorothea McGrath.

Zach is survived by his parents, Mary and Larry McGrath; daughter Audrey Smith; brother Michael (Rebecca) Fretueg; sister Reeanna (Ashley) Altom; brother Cody (Anna) McGrath; sister Daysha McGrath; his nieces and nephews, Derrick Vostatek, Cora Altom, Cannon Altom, Adler Altom and Thompson McGrath; and lots of loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will have a private memorial for Zach in Mountain Home, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers the family asks to please make donations to the Cumberland Heights Treatment Center at Cumberlandheights.org in Nashville, Tennessee in Zach McGrath's name.
