David Sherman Stuart, age 60, of Clear Lake, Texas, went home to be with his Lord on May 5, 2013, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. To those who knew him...he had a quiet presence, yet exuded inner strength and was known for his devotion to family, dry wit and generosity. He graduated from NederlandHigh School and LamarUniversity in Beaumont, Texas with an MBA in Business Administration. For the past 20 years, he was a valued business consultant with Colonial Life Insurance. David had a love for all sports, especially golf and baseball. He also officiated basketball, enjoyed coaching and supporting his children's endeavors in baseball and golf. David was an avid reader and an extraordinary trivia buff. Dear to his heart was his "other family," The Houston Force. He was preceded in death by his father, W.C. Stuart. David leaves loving memories to the following survivors: former wife Diane Stuart; daughter Kathryn and son William Stuart; mother Betty Stuart of Nederland; sisters Lisa Smith and husband Randy, Sheila Bass and husband Jim, of Nederland; and numerous former sister-in-laws and brother-in-law, nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013, 5-8 pm, at Crowder Funeral Home, Webster, Texas. Services to be held Friday, 10am, at ClearLakeUnitedMethodistChurch, with burial to follow at ForestLawnCemetery, Beaumont, Texas, at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be given to the American Cancer Society or M.D. Anderson.

Kathryn and Will, I was so sorry to see your dad had passed. I remember him as being so supportive of whatever you guys did. He drove Kathryn around selling Girl Scout cookies and she was the highest seller in our troop for many years. He was a kind and gentle man.

Diane , Kathryn and , William,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Saddened that I was unable to be there to share a memory about a life to be celebrated. While it hurts so deeply to know David is not with us, remembering those special moments he brought to all our lives will soften the pain you feel today. Please know you are all in my prayers.

David and I were best friends for 50 years. NEVER did we fight, disagree yes. He was always there for me, giving me his advice which sounded like my dad. We both knew this was a tough battle, he NEVER complained. I loved him with all my heart. You are home now. REST IN PEACE

I was a classmate of David's. It has been many years since I got to visit with him and to find out he lived just around the corner from me makes me even sadder that we never knew. I Would have loved to see that great smile of his, he was always so kind and good for a good laugh. His friend and forever classmate, Becky LeBleu Fontenot- cooney

Big Stu was a great guy. I had not seen him in many years. We played football together at Nederland High School. I am sad to hear about his passing (60 is still young). My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
