Herschell Glasgow

Herschel Miller Glasgow, 92, a long time Friendswood resident, passed away on June 26, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Herschel was preceded in death by his parents Grace and Herschel, wife Helen, and daughter Janis. He is survived by his sons, Herschel Richard, his wife Dawn, grandchildren, Adam and Meghan; his son, Scott Adair, and his wife Roni, grandchildren, Christine and Turner.

Dad graduated from Pascal High school in Fort Worth Texas, and attended one year of college until Pearl Harbor was bombed December 7, 1941. He was still underage to enlist but received permission from his parents to join the Army Air Core "Cadet" program where he graduated with rank of second lieutenant; he became a pilot and flew B 17 Bombers in the European Theater of the war.

After WWII ended, Herschel attended Texas Christian University and graduated in 1948 with a Bachelors degree in Geology, that same year he married Helen Francis Griffin also from Fort Worth Texas.

Herschel and Helen spent the first several years of their marriage working with Standard Oil in various locations in west Texas. Eventually Herschel took a job with Houston Natural Gas. During that time their first son Herschel was born in 1952, daughter Janis was born in 1955, and son Scott born in 1959.

The family resided in Houston Texas until 1965 when they moved to Friendswood Texas.

Herschel was an avid pilot; he remained in the Air Force Reserve until 1960, and flew as often as possible. Hobbies he enjoyed were building and flying model aircraft, Ham radio operation, photography and many other interests.

Herschel was a man of integrity, and very patriotic, he also carried the typical Texan characteristic of Strength and Honor. We shall miss him immensely but are equally rejoiced knowing he will be in eternal peace.

A memorial service will be held at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr, Friendswood, TX 77546 (281) 992-7200, 4:00 PM Thursday July 7, 2016.
