Mary E. Settle, age 74 of Houston, Texas, passed away on October 26, 2014. Mary loved to fish, garden and paint. She also had a thriving business "Head Hunters by Mary" in her younger years as hairstylist to the astronauts during the early shuttle missions. She had beauty, style and a whit about her that everyone loved. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Mary was born in Waco, Texas, on July 05, 1940 to William and Eunice Ashby. She spent her teenage years in Manitou Springs, Colorado and returned with her family to Sulpher Springs Texas. Mary met her husband Don in Dallas. It was love at first sight and they married after a short courtship. Her husband's work in the space industry led them and their children to many parts of the country including the Pacific, Atlantic and Gulf coasts. They settled in the Clear Lake area of Houston in the early 1970's.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Don, her children Ron Settle and wife Gena, Teresa Fitzgerald, her grandchildren Cassandra Godinez and husband Johnny, Spencer and Sean Fitzgerald, her brother Randall Ashby and wife Patsy, her sisters Brenda Ashby, Gloria Thomas and husband Bill and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her son Donald Settle, her father William Ashby, her mother Eunice Ashby, brothers Robert and Billy Ashby and Sister Loretta Martin.
An open house memorial will be held on Saturday, November 22, from 1:00pm - 4:00pm at the private residence of Don Settle. The location is 4211 Indian Sunrise Ct. Houston, TX 77059 in the Brookwood subdivision off of Bay Area Blvd.
