Patricia Shutt Obituary

FELTON - Patricia "Pat" (Ashley) Shutt passed away peacefully on Oct. 14, 2017 at Milford Memorial Hospital (Bayhealth), surrounded by her loving family. Pat was born on Nov. 7, 1945, to the late Jay James and Mildred (Emory) Savage in Milford. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Pat dedicated her life to helping members of her community any way that she could. She was a former leader of the local TOPS organization, cooked feasts for charitable events, and made numerous donations to communities in need on a daily basis. In her spare time, Pat loved to go weekend dancing with her husband, Herb, and friends, traveled with girlfriends to Cape Hatteras, and spent time cooking for her family, who spent all holidays together at her home. Well-known for her amazing cooking and far-reaching compassion, she led an exemplary life of public service. Pat dedicated nearly three decades of service to the State of Delaware and City of Milford, where she met many of her lifelong friends.
Along with her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her second husband, Herbert A. Shutt; her sister, Joyce Thornley; and her first husband and father of her children, Richard L. Ashley.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Annette Ashley; her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Bill Brittingham; her sister and husband, Frances "Boo" and Roy Pruitt; her aunt, Frances Frankel; four grandchildren, William L. Brittingham, Amie Evans, Ashley Brittingham, and Brent Ashley; four great-grandchildren, Payten Garcia, Addison, Ellie, and Jackson Evans; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her special friend Kay Watson, all whom she loved very much.
A service celebrating the life of Pat will be held at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 Front Street, Milford on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, with one hour for visitation beginning at 2 p.m. and services beginning at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her honor may be sent to The Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
