Leroy Banks Obituary

Leroy Darnell Banks CAMBRIDGE - Leroy Darnell Banks, departed this life on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2010, at Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge. Darnell, as he was affectionately called, was born March 2, 1951, in Cambridge, son of the Leroy Banks and the late Madline Banks. He was educated in the Dorchester County Public Schools and was a graduate of Mace's Lane High School Class of 1969. After graduation, he served in the United States Army for three years and was honorably discharged in 1974. He was united in holy matrimony to Rose Jones on Dec. 12, 1971. Darnell was employed with Memorial Hospital in Easton and the Eastern Shore State Hospital until his health began to fail. He leaves to mourn a loving wife, Rose; two sons, Dion Darnell (Cambridge) and Dontrell Lamont (Felicia), Crofton; his father, Leroy Banks and a special mother in-law, Evelyn Banks; precious memories will also be cherished by his three brothers, Alton Banks, Rev. Randall (Joyce) Banks (both of Cambridge) and Hilton Banks (Huntsville, Ala.); three sisters, Vanessa (Mark) Warner, Karen Mathis and Sharon Banks (all of Cambridge); three loving grandchildren, Jasmine and Jade (Alexandria, Va.), Aiden and mother Tisha Poland (both Crofton); special aunts, Brenda Hayward and Guinevere Banks (both of Cambridge) and uncle, Hilton Hayward (Baltimore). He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends who looked to him as a father figure and who's children call him "Pop Pop." Funeral services will be 11 a.m., today, Feb. 26, at Bethel AME Church, 623 Pine St., Cambridge, with a viewing Thursday evening 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Interment in the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Condolences sent to www.henryfuneralhomepa.com.
