Verl Kirts Obituary

Verl Omar Kirts, 81, of Columbus, died at 12:32 p.m. on February 21, 2025, at Grand Stand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Omar was born March 26, 1943, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Verl and Rissie (Osborne) Kirts. He married Marolyn Sisson on August 4, 1963.

Known as Omar to family and friends, he worked at Cummins Engine for 45 years, retiring April 1, 2008. He was a former licensed pilot and plane enthusiast, attending many aviation events with his wife and daughters. He enjoyed discussing politics and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He also supported many causes that were special to him.

The memorial service for Omar will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rick Sisson officiating. Calling will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2025, and from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday.

In place of flowers, memorials may be made to Clarity Care Hub, Wounded Warriors, and Our Hospice.

Survivors include his wife, Marolyn Kirts; daughters, Edith Rosenberry and Angela (Mike) Mathis; sister, Sue Harwick; chosen brother, John (Ruth) Quinn; granddaughter Micah Mathis and grandson Seth Mathis; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verl and Rissie Kirts; sister, Brenda Kirts; and brother-in-law, Don Hardwick.

Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
