Clay Skinner Obituary

Clay H Skinner
Born: November 18, 1928 in Princeton, IL
Died: June 7, 2025 in Henry, IL
Princeton - Clay Haskell Skinner, 96, of Princeton, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Henry Rehab and Nursing in Henry, Illinois.
Born on November 18, 1928, Clay was the son of Clay and Virginia (Haskell) Skinner. Clay graduated from Princeton High School, continued his studies at Beloit College, and pursued graduate work at the University of Illinois.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany following World War II. After his military service, he worked as an engineer for the Illinois State Highway Department.
Clay was known for his warm smile and infectious, jolly laugh. A lifelong learner and history enthusiast, he enjoyed sharing that he shared a birthday with Mickey Mouse. He was a member of the Princeton Game and Fish Club and the Bureau County Historical Society.
He held dear the many memories of growing up in Princeton, attending school alongside his sister and cousins. As the last surviving member of his generation in the family, his passing marks the close of a meaningful chapter in local history.
Clay is survived by many cherished first and second cousins once removed, including: Sallee (Bill) Beneke of Princeton; Joe Skinner of Clermont, Florida; Jerri (Bill) Stone of Freeport, Maine; Lisa (Alejandro) Skinner-Bastardo of Magnolia, Texas; Beckay Mezza of Arlington Heights, Illinois; and Peggay McCallum of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Olga Skinner, and his parents, Clay Skinner and Virginia Skinner.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bureau County Historical Society.
