Martin Faber Obituary

Dr. Martin F Faber
Born: April 23, 1950 in Mendota, IL
Died: April 24, 2025 in Princeton, IL
Princeton - Doctor Martin Frederick Faber, 75 of Princeton, IL passed away June 4, 2025 at OSF St. Clare Medical Center. Martin was born April 23, 1950 in Mendota, IL to Glade Reuben Faber and Halcyon "Sue" (DeVore) Faber.
Martin grew up on the family farm in rural La Moille, IL and took great pride in raising and showing Holstein cows. He graduated from La Moille High School in 1968 (valedictorian), North Central College in 1972 with a bachelor's in Biology & Chemistry (cum laude), received his medical degree from Rush University Medical School in 1975 (Alpha Distinguished Honor Society), and completed his residency at the University of Illinois Rockford.
He married Linda Merrie Novak on August 21, 1971 in Chicago. In 1978 he moved to Princeton and began his medical career at Princeton Family Physicians and went on to practice family medicine, obstetrics and emergency medicine at OSF Saint Clare Medical Center, (fmr Perry Memorial Hospital), for 36 years. During his medical career he delivered over 1500 babies and served as an assistant clinical professor with the University of Illinois rural medicine education (RMED) program and Bradley University. He also volunteered his services at the Bureau County Health and Wellness Clinic. He enjoyed working with providers and deeply appreciated the nurses and staff who served alongside him in the greater Bureau County area. Expressions of his faith could be witnessed through his many acts of kindness, especially when it came to his patient care. He was known for his integrity, generosity and unwavering dedication to the community.
He enjoyed assisting with the local Boy Scouts, served as a medical standby at Princeton High School football games and provided volunteer gardening services for Princeton First United Methodist Church. His other hobbies and passions included tennis, scuba diving, chess, farming, football, horticulture and reading history. He loved visiting with his grandchildren and extended family and was a captivating storyteller with whom he spent time.
He is preceded in death by his father Glade Faber and mother Halcyon Faber (DeVore), mother-in law (Gloria Novak), father-in-law (John Novak), and brothers James and Stuart Faber.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Novak) Faber of Princeton, IL, his sisters Beverly Faber of Decatur, IN, and Ellen (William) Stouffer of La Moille, IL; Brother Dr. Arnold (Anne) Faber of Princeton, IL; two daughters Jenny (Russ) Gewin and Rebekah (Michael) Pickett, both of Naperville, IL; Six sons Greg Faber of Madison, WI, Adam (Jessica) Faber of Aurora, IL, Nathan (Angela) Faber of Anchorage, AK, Aaron (Parnit) Faber of Darien, IL, Kevin Faber of Tiskilwa, IL and Douglas Faber of Princeton, IL; and 15 grandchildren, Danielle, Ryan, and Chase Gewin; Henry, Penelope, and Charlie Faber; Adrienne and Lillian Faber; Brynn, Alana, and Lucas Faber; Isabella, Madeleine, William, and Thomas.

My deepest sympathies to all of the Faber family on your loss! Especially to you, Linda, on the loss of your husband I remember your wedding so well as it was the first I was a bridesmaid! Marty was a true presence in all of his/your ventures in life following North Central College! I regret we lost touch somewhere along your journey. But know that my heart and prayers are with you now, with love always!

Dr. Faber was my physician for many years. I taught his children at Gingerbread Nursery School. I thought very highly of him and his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Linda and Family
I am so sorry for your loss. I live in Glenn Ellyn now and no longer drive, but you are in thoughts and prayers. Dr. Faber was a very kind and caring man.

The story I tell anyone who will listen is the birth of my second son almost 14 years ago. When Dr realized I was ready for delivery he got so excited! (He had just been woken up since it was 11pm on a Friday.) There was no stress or worry in that delivery room. The cord was wrapped around my
son's neck, which Dr caught immediately, and he proceeded to explain what he was going to do to fix the situation while still letting my husband cut the cord.
He was the calm, experienced and joyful Dr people dream of having during delivery. My parents, myself and my children were all fortunate to have this man care for us.
To his family: I hope you all lean on God to guide you though the next chapter. God is near to the broken-hearted

Dan and I will truly miss Marty. He has been a wonderful neighbor to us, always ready for a friendly chat. Linda, we will never forget how welcoming you both were when we moved into Bryant Woods. You are such a blessing and we are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. Our condolences, Dan and Maria Hartsough
