Patsy Whitener Kanagy

DELAND - Patsy Whitener Kanagy, 85, passed away Dec. 14, 2025, at her home. A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at First Presbyterian Church DeLand.
Patsy was born May 30, 1940, in Hickory, North Carolina.
She retired as a residential sales associate for Coldwell Banker.
Patsy was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of DeLand, where she served as a deacon. She also has been an accompanist and director of youth groups, taught Sunday school, and sang in various church choirs.
A member of the DeLand Bridge Club and a lifetime member of the Garden Club, Patsy enjoyed gardening, playing the organ, playing bridge, singing in the choir at church, and quilting. She was a former National Flower Show judge and served as adviser for Coldwell Banker charitable organization.
Patsy was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, David R. Kanagy; her parents, Oliver P. and Mary Lou Whitener; and sister Shelia Hildebran (Bob). She is survived by her stepchildren, James Kanagy (Darcy) and Christine Kanagy (Andrew); brothers Barron Whitener (Lois) and Dale P. Whitener (Jan); her Charlotte family, Marge Sloat and her children John Sloat (Christina) and Kimberly Sloat (Mark); stepgrandson Dustin Kanagy (Lauren); and stepgreat-grandchildren Audrey Renee and Emma Rae Kanagy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Music Scholarship Fund. Allen-Summerhill is in charge.
