Frances R. (Yoder) Kanagy, 84, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Thursday, November 27, 2025 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born January 27, 1941 in Belleville, PA she was the daughter of the late Samuel C. and Arie E. (Byler) Yoder.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who took great pride in her home, baking, and cooking. Frances put her baking skills to work, working in the bakery of the Butcher Shoppe for 20 years. She was a faithful and loyal member of Mission Hill Church, formerly Chambersburg Brethren in Christ. She enjoyed completing word-searches and sticker books. Frances loved her family more than anything and made sure to call those she loved on birthdays and special anniversaries.
She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia K. Witter and husband Kevin of Shippensburg, Michelle L. of Chambersburg; and Maxine J. Commerer and husband Bobby of Shippensburg; six grandchildren, Marissa, Grant, Garrett, Shane, Katelyn, and Brooke; a great-grandchild, Quinn; four siblings, Beulah Kauffman of Reedsville, PA, Marlin Yoder of Buhler, KS, Raymond Yoder of Reedsville, PA and John Yoder of Buhler, KS; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Leon J. Kanagy who passed away January 11, 2022 and seven siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Air Hill Church, 7041 Cumberland Highway, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Kevin Witter and Rev. Joel Gillman will officiate. Interment will follow in Air Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday evening at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Saturday morning at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Tide, P.O. Box 399, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
