Patsy Whitener Kanagy

Patsy Whitener Kanagy, 85 of DeLand passed away December 14, 2025 at her residence. She was born in Hickory, North Carolina on May 30, 1940. Patsy retired as a residential sales associate for Coldwell Banker. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in DeLand, where she served as a deacon. She also has been an accompanist, director of youth groups, taught Sunday School and sang in various church choirs. She was also a member of the DeLand Bridge Club and a lifetime member of the Garden Club. Patsy enjoyed gardening, playing the organ, playing bridge, singing in the choir at church and quilting. She was a former National Flower Show judge and served as advisor for Coldwell Banker charitable organization. She was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, David R. Kanagy, her parents Oliver P. and Mary Lou Whitener and sister Shelia Hildebran (Bob). She is survived by her step-children James Kanagy (Darcy) and Christine Kanagy (Andrew); Brothers Barron Whitener (Lois) and Dale P. Whitener (Jan); her Charlotte family Marge Sloat and her children John Sloat (Christina) and Kimberly Sloat (Mark); step-grandson Dustin Kanagy (Lauren) and step-great-grandchildren Audrey Renee and Emma Rae Kanagy. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 10:30am at First Presbyterian Church DeLand. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church Music Scholarship Fund.
