Norman Wayne Frerichs went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Whispering Winds Cottage in Beatrice. Norman was born in Beatrice on February 10, 1943 to Pope and Grace (Parde) Frerichs. Norman spent his early years in the Virginia, Nebraska area until his family moved to Munden, Kansas where he graduated from high school in 1960. He furthered his education at Fairbury Junior College studying pre-engineering, graduating in 1962. On December 27, 1964 he married Pauline Trauernicht. They had one son, Wade Norman Frerichs. Norman and Pauline later divorced. On July 17, 1999, Norman married Dee Ann Nemyer-Craig and they made their home in Wymore until his passing.
Norman continued his education in the electrical field obtaining his electrical contractor's license in 1997. Norman worked for Northern Natural Gas until 1976 and later worked for Agrium Fertilizer Plant from 1979 until his retirement in 2003. Norman's life was troubled by and addiction to alcohol until January 8, 1996 when he began his life of sobriety. He had a deep love and compassion for those dealing with addiction and was actively involved in Alcoholic's Anonymous, helping those who wanted sobriety and working toward spiritual fitness. In addition to helping other addicts, he enjoyed volunteering at his church, trail biking, yard work, and working on restoring Jeeps.
Norman is survived by his wife, Dee Ann Frerichs; son, Wade Frerichs of Kansas City, Missouri; "bonus children," Barry (Debbie) Craig of Rose Hill, Kansas, Dan (Inga) Craig of Grands Pass, Oregon, and Kristi (Brian) Bauer of El Dorado, Kansas grandchildren, Elliott Grotzinger-Frerichs, Cooper Grotzinger-Frerichs, Danielle (Shawn( Fischer, Megan (Cale) Eldridge, Mason and Annika Craig, and Kimberly and Emilee Bauer; great grandchildren, Kayleigh and Kaia Fischer; Hudson and Blakely Eldridge; mother, Grace Frerichs of Beatrice; sisters, Carolyn (Russell) Schultis of Diller and Donna Young of Beatrice; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Pope; brother, Arlen; and nephews, Jeff and Ricky Frerichs.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Wymore Church of Christ with Clayton Lundstedt officiating. A family prayer service will begin at 10:15 a.m. Burial will be at the Wymore Cemetery. A register book will be available at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore on Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6:30-8 p.m. A memorial has been established to the Wymore Church of Christ, Columbus Rescue Mission, and Whispering Winds Cottage with the funeral home in charge.
