Death
CLATONIA - William H. Steinmeyer, 82, Clatonia, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002. He was born Nov. 12, 1919, near Clatonia, graduated from Clatonia school in 1937 and attended Dana College at Blair. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. He married Arlyne Schachenmeyer on June 4, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clatonia and had been the postmaster in Clatonia for over 30 years. After the death of his first wife, he married Mae Anna (Von Busch) Greer on Feb. 14, 1959, at St. James Methodist Church in Lincoln. In 1996, he moved to Crete where he made his home until his death. He was a member of the Clatonia United Methodist Church, the American Legion in Beatrice, and was a former member of the Crete Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors: sons, Roger R. Steinmeyer and wife DeNeice of Lincoln, Gene L. Steinmeyer and wife Michele D. of Maryville, Mo.; grandchildren, Zachary R. and Kelsey R. Steinmeyer of Lincoln, Samuel R. Steinmeyer of Maryville, Mo.; stepson, Gregory A. Greer of Florida; sister, Virginia Else and husband Gene of Clatonia. Preceded in death by his parents, C. William and Iva (Hollingworth) Steinmeyer; first wife, Arlyne (Schachenmeyer) Steinmeyer (March 7, 1958); second wife, Mae Anna Steinmeyer (Dec. 23, 1984); son, Edward Neal Steinmeyer.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, United Methodist Church, Clatonia, Pastor Bonnie Forney and the Rev. Paul Quackenbush officiating. Burial: Clatonia Cemetery. Memorials to the church. Visitation: until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Zajicek Funeral Home, Wilber.
