Cole Gober Obituary

Cole Brittain Gober, Sr., 80, of Beaumont, passed away June 24, 2024, at MD Anderson Cancer Center Hospital in Houston. A devoted family man, and long-standing member of the business community in Beaumont, Cole leaves behind a legacy of service, generosity, and friendship.

Cole was born in Jackson, Mississippi on June 30, 1943, to Howard W. Sr, and Elizabeth Gober. He attended Murrah High School where he was a member of the golf team and graduated from The University of Mississippi in 1965 with a degree in Mathematics. He loved Ole Miss and remained a faithful supporter of his Alma Mater throughout the years. He met his beloved wife Carol, of 61 years, in Jackson through mutual friends. They moved to Beaumont in 1966 with School Pictures Incorporated, and ran a thriving photography business for many years, as well as The F-Stop Camera Shop. Cole is remembered well for his talent as a photographer and his generous personality. In 1979, he became a State Farm agent. For over 45 years with State Farm, Cole has truly been "like a good neighbor" to thousands of clients who appreciate and value his expertise and personal attention. Along with his wife Carol and long-term office manager Michelle Guzman, he grew his State Farm Agency broadly and leaves behind a tradition of service to others.

As a community member, Cole was a member of the Young Men's Business League for many years and contributed energetically to the organization. Within YMBL he was dedicated to the support of Girls Haven and Boys Haven sponsorships. He and his family were members of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a choir member and soloist. Cole had a beautiful singing voice! Locally, he also supported Lamar University's Health and Kinesiology Majors Club and was instrumental in the success of their golf tournament fund raiser for several years and was an avid golfer himself. He continues to support Lamar Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, as a former Ole Miss ATO. Cole is perhaps most lovingly remembered in the community for his many years as a Little League Baseball coach, first with Spindletop and later West End Little League. Many of his former players from the late 60s-early 80s still call him "Coach."

Above all, Cole was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Carol Benner Gober, his children; Donna Gober, Britt Gober, and Richard Gober and wife Leigh Joseph Gober, his grandchildren; Madison Gober Leasure and husband Nick Leasure, Colby Gober, Will Gober, Danny Gober, and Andrew Gober, niece Laura Ann Mullins and husband, Bill Mullins and their children Will Henry, Chaney, and Perry Alice, as well as beloved cousins in Mississippi. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard W. Sr., and Elizabeth Gober, and his brother, Howard W. Gober, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to Beaumont YMBL in support of the many organizations YMBL sponsors Community Support (ymbl.org), Sponsorship Options & Payment (ymbl.org) and Lamar University Zeta Theta Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega Philanthropy event established to honor Cole through donations to The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation https://gofund.me/5f9de058
