Earl Schell Obituary

Earl B. Schell, 83, of Houston, Texas, died at his home Friday, March 18, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born May 24, 1927, in Port Arthur, Texas, to the late Earl B. Schell, Sr. and Thelma Norris Schell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Leger and Pat Currie; and one brother, Vernon Schell. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret McKee Schell; one daughter, Ellen Edwards and her husband, Richard of Houston; two sons, David Schell and his wife, Debra of Waco, and Richard Glenn Schell of Arlington, Texas; and four grandchildren, Danielle Schell, Darin Schell, Ryan Edwards, and Elissa Edwards. Also surviving are a sister, June Silvernail of Duncanville, Texas, and nieces, nephews and cousins. Earl served in the U. S. Army at the end of World War II. He had a long career at the Texaco refinery in Port Arthur. In 1982, he and Margaret moved to Clinton, Arkansas, where they enjoyed many years of retirement in the scenic surroundings. They moved to Houston, Texas, in 2003 to be near their family. Earl was active in the United Methodist Temple in Port Arthur, First United Methodist Church in Clinton, Arkansas, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Houston. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 2, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 5501 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77004; www.stpauls houston.org. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to St. Paul's United Methodist Church to support children's and outreach ministries. I worked with Earl in the early 70's, at Texaco. I can say without reservation, that he was the single biggest impact on my career and self-development. I wish his family, my deepest sympathies, for their loss.
