Glenn Duhon Obituary
Glenn Dewey Sonny Duhon 1925 - 2010 On January 8, 2010, in Phoenix, Arizona, Glenn Sonny Duhon, 84, left this earth to join his parents, Ada L. and Dewey J. Duhon in heaven. A native of Beaumont, Texas, born on October 29, 1925, he graduated from South Park High School in 1943. While in high school, he was a member of the marching band, lettered in tennis, and in the U.I.L. State tennis tournament awarded his sweater; he was also licensed as a Life Guard in swimming and managed the Alice Keith Pool in summers while delivering morning papers to subscribers every morning at 4:00 a.m. After graduating from high school, he traveled with the Dick Cisne orchestra on a professional contract arranged by Johnny Frank, head of the local musician's Union. He developed into an outstanding jazz musician and played the b-flat clarinet, e-flat alto sax and tenor saxophone. His music career was interrupted when he reached eighteen years of age, and he opted to enlist in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He played with the Air Force band, and after the war, he enter A&M University. After reading his resume', he was tapped by the director of the Aggieland Orchestra to be a member and tenor sax soloist. Always an animal lover, while in college he stabled a horse which he loved to ride; he also logged many hours in the air and received his solo license to fly; he also managed to buy his first car from the takes of the many gigs with the Aggieland orchestra. He always had a dog with interesting names like Charmaine, Boom-Boom, Bang-Bang, Beeper and Boo, the last four were Scotties. Charmaine was a red Chow named after the ballad of the same name. After college, he chose a career in helping people rather than entertaining them, and after 25 plus years, he retired as Senior Health Inspector with the City of Houston Health Department. It always pleased him that his beloved daughter, Glene' had also followed in the health care field. He doted on his only daughter and her two sons, Brent and Adam, as well as his son-in-law Philip Jerry Wolfe, all of Phoenix. He is also survived by his wife, Imogene of Phoenix, sister, Marylyn Munsterman of Beaumont; cousins, Jaydee Bruce of Hamshire and Mary E. Wesner of Lake Rayburn, and his daughter's mother, Margaret M. Jones of Phoenix. A private family service was held at 11:00 a.m. at the Best Funeral Home in Peoria, Arizona, on June 11, 2010.
