Huberta Wright Obituary

Huberta Nunn Wright, 82, died peacefully on August 20th at home in Princeton, New Jersey. She was a descendant of prominent early Texas families, born on August 26, 1924 in San Antonio to Robert Read Nunn and Olivette Wise Nunn (who later married Dr. H.W. Cummings, Jr. of Houston after Mr. Nunn's death). She grew up in Houston and was a graduate of Mount Vernon Seminary in Washington, D.C. and the University of Texas at Austin. A gifted artist, she studied painting from childhood. Noted for her portraits and landscapes, which were exhibited throughout the U.S. and Canada, her work is in many private collections throughout the country. She utilized her artistic talents on behalf of children for many years, working in art therapy with orphans and creating educational and thematic projects for ill and disadvantaged youth. In Princeton, where she had lived since 1972, she was a member of the Junior League, Present Day Club, Springdale Golf Club, Nassau Club, and Nassau Presbyterian Church. She previously lived in Beaumont, Texas; Lorne Park, Ontario; and Winchester and Lincoln, Massachusetts. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Vernon Gerald Wright of Princeton; her sons Robert Payton Wright and his wife Sallie Smith Wright of Houston, Texas, and David Cummings Wright of Concord, Massachusetts; her daughter Sally Ann Wright of Princeton; two grandchildren - Payton Cullen Wright of Fort Worth, Texas and his wife Ashley, and Elizabeth Risher Wright of Arlington, Virginia; and a brother, Robert Read Nunn, Jr. of Seattle, Washington. Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at Nassau Presbyterian Church on October 6. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Nassau Presbyterian Church, Friends of the Princeton Public Library or DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts.
