John Gilmore Obituary

John F. Gilmore, M.D., 89, of Beaumont, died Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Touched by an Angel Personal Care Home, Beaumont. Dr. Gilmore was born on February 15, 1923, in Kerens, Texas, to Velma Cartwright Gilmore and William Allen Gilmore, and had been a resident of the Beaumont area since 1961. Dr. Gilmore grew up in Athens, Texas, and graduated from Athens High School. He attended and graduated from The University of Texas and The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), receiving his M.D. degree at age 22. He interned at the United States Naval Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he met and married his wife of forty-two years, Jane Russell Gilmore, R.N., a Navy nurse and also a veteran of World War II. He served as a ship's doctor and was honorably discharged after active duty and serving in the United States Naval Reserve. After discharge, he worked as a primary care physician in Pearsall, Texas. Dr. Gilmore later did an obstetrics and gynecology residency in Houston and practiced ob-gyn in Abilene, Texas, for seven years. After this, he returned to UTMB for a residency in dermatology and practiced as a dermatologist in Beaumont, until his retirement in 1998, after working as a physician for fifty-two years. Dr. Gilmore was preceded in death by his wife, Jane in 1988, and sister, Velma Gilmore Anderson. He is survived by his children, Eileen Gilmore McCulloch and her husband, Robert S. Steve McCulloch, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; William Allen Gilmore II, M.D. and his wife, Sylvia Ramirez Gilmore, of Beaumont; John Russell Gilmore, M.D. and his wife, Linda Burk Gilmore, M.D., of Dallas; and Christopher Cartwright Gilmore and his wife, Michela Rushbrook Gilmore, of Austin; and grandchildren, Kristin McCulloch of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rachel Gilmore of New York, New York, Jane Gilmore of Chicago, Illinois, John Frank Gilmore III and Linda Gilmore, both of Dallas, Beatrice Jane Gilmore and Michael John Gilmore, both of Austin; great-grandchildren, Damian Piccione, Hope Gonzales, Stephen Gonzales and Rose Gonzales, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The family would like to thank Reverend Monsignor William Manger; Doctors Antonio Remirez, M.D., John A. Henderson IV, M.D., Kevin Harmon, M.D. and Andy Duke, M.D., D.D.S.; mechanics and friends, Russell and Kevin Andrepont; caretakers, Evelina Harrison, Judy Marr, Misty Ward, Dominga DD Aguilar, Jackie Renfro, Eloise Robinson, Pam Pouncy, and Paulia Pearson. The family would also like to especially thank Tyra Jackson, R.N. and all of the staff of Touched by an Angel Personal Care Home. A graveside service for Dr. Gilmore will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, with Reverend Monsignor William Manger, officiating, under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 700 North Street, Suite M, Beaumont, Texas 77701; St. Anne Catholic Church, P.O. Box 3429, Beaumont, Texas 77704; St. Anne Catholic School, 375 North 11th Street, Beaumont, Texas 77702; All Saints Episcopal School, 4108 Delaware, Beaumont, Texas 77706; Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School, 5950 Kelly Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77707; or to a charity of one's choice.
