Alan Schaeffer Obituary
Alan Lee Schaeffer, 65, of New Athens, Ill., born Feb. 16, 1948, in Belleville, Ill., passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at the New Athens Home for the Aged in New Athens, Ill.
Mr. Schaeffer was an auto body technician with Hoernis Auto Body for 43 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, Ill., where he was confirmed in 2010. He was baptized at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Freeburg, Ill., on June 20, 1948. Alan loved hunting and fishing and he enjoyed stock car racing when he was younger.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Schaeffer; stepmother, Catherine, nee Mulligan, Schaeffer; and a brother, Dan Schaeffer.
Surviving are his wife, Carla Jean, nee Parker-Gardiner, Schaeffer whom he married on Jan. 17, 1997, in Las Vegas, Nev.; his mother, Virginia Laux of Naples, Fla.; his daughter, Lisa Marie (Erin) Wheeler of Columbia, Mo.; stepdaughter, Jamie (Darin) Mattern of New Athens, Ill.; stepsons, Richard (Lynn) Pratt of Smithton, Ill., Craig (Laurie) Pratt of North Augusta, S.C. and Keith (Janis) Pratt of Summerville, S.C.; his grandchildren, Shaylynn Wagner of Columbia, Mo., Kylee Wagner of Columbia, Mo., Jackie Pratt of Freeburg, Ill., Jaiden Ennis of New Athens, Ill., Trace Bauer of New Athens, Ill., Daniel Godfrey of North Augusta, S.C., Nicole Pratt of North Augusta, S.C., Travis Pratt of North Augusta, S.C., Kayla Pratt of Summerville, S.C., and Aaron Pratt of Summerville, S.C.; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Schaeffer of Ashland City, Tenn.; stepbrother, Dan Mulligan of Red Bud, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the New Athens Home for the Aged Activity Fund. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.heilschuessler.com.
Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, Ill.
Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, Ill., with Rev. John Lukomski officiating.

My deepest sympathy to the Schaeffer family. I lost my brother, Roger Reichling in October. Alan and Roger were high school friends. Alan and other friends--and now Ralph Rodenmayer, use to come to my parent's house to play cards and just hang out. I would like to think they are all hanging out together in heaven like they did in high school. Take care in knowing he is with family and friends.

It's been a hell of a ride squirrel, I know you ran to those pearly gates sayin where the hells the party. Your up there with the Big Bopper, say hello to Elvis for me. we have had a delay in our good times but they will return when we all meet again. Take care old buddie until the party starts again. RIP my friend.
