Benjamin Schneider

Benjamin I. Schneider, 32, of New Athens, Ill., born April 3, 1980, in Belleville, Ill., died Monday, April 30, 2012.

Ben was a past member of the Swansea Volunteer Fire Department. He was a long-time member and trumpet player of the Second Generation Swing Big Band musical group. He volunteered his time with the community theater, both as a technician and musician. Ben loved boating, wakeboarding, skiing and anything that included water.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alvin and Marie, nee Wimmer, Schneider; and an uncle, Tom Schneider.

Surviving are his mother, Sheryl (James Jackson) Schneider of New Athens, Ill.; his father, Steven (Jane) Schneider of Swansea, Ill.; a sister, Sarah Abigail Schneider of California; step-siblings, Jessica and Patrick Crockarell, Jamie and B.J. Hall and Joanna and Brian Rumler; his maternal grandparents, Deacon Don and Shirley Deitz; aunts and uncles, Jim (Susan) Schneider, Donna (Marshall) Bergeron, Joe (Mercedes) Schneider, Bill (Kayoko) Schneider, Susan Scott, Steven Deitz, Stacy (Brian) Deslatte, Scott (Sandy) Deitz, and Shelly (Michael) Popp; numerous cousins; nieces and nephews; and many special friends, including Nichole Alvey.

Memorials may be made in Ben's name to the charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.



Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, Ill.

Funeral: A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, Ill., with Father Stanley Konieczny and Deacon Don Deitz officiating.

Sincere condolences to the Schneider family. Ben will forever be remembered as a great guy. Someone you were lucky to have met. Although I went to grade school with Ben, I remember him more as a neighbor and friend from Anna St. My husband also worked with Ben at Woods. Our prayers our with Bens family.
