Chad Calhoun Obituary

Chad Calhoun
Chad Ryan Calhoun, 20, of Shiloh, Ill., born Nov. 14, 1983, in Wichita, Kan., went to be with his Savior in Heaven and his beloved sister, Andrea, at 7:00 in the morning, Sunday May 30, 2004.
Chad was studying to be an officer in the Army and a high school English teacher. He completed his sophomore year of college and ROTC at SIU Edwardsville and worked as a server at O'Charley's. Summer plans included the German Armed Forces Competition (where he earned a Bronze Medal), Airborne Training, and participation in Robin Sage.
Chad was killed when he fell asleep at the wheel of his Pontiac Grand Am, which he had proudly owned for one week.
Chad was a member of the First Baptist Church of O'Fallon and loved Jesus from the time he was a toddler. Chad knew with certainty that he would one day see his sister again. His grandmother, Elizabeth Boucher and a brother, Jason Calhoun, also died much too soon.
Chad was giving and loving to his family and friends. Although he wanted to be a military officer, he was tender and compassionate. He was a team player: One For All, All For One. While the world is a sadder place without him, Heaven is richer with him. We loved him dearly.
Chad was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elizabeth Boucher; a brother, Jason Calhoun; and a sister, Andrea Calhoun.
Chad is survived by his parents, Larry and Kay, nee Russell, Calhoun and his grandparents, Tom and Audrey Calhoun, all of Shiloh, Ill. He is also survived by a brother, Jonathan (Marisa) Calhoun of Clarkston, Mich.; an aunt, Sue Everett; cousins, Andrew, Matthew, Elizabeth and Alex, all of Des Moines, Iowa; an uncle, Dan Russell and aunt Cindy of Wichita, Kan.; and an aunt Sandi White and cousins, Scott and Troy of Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chad Calhoun Memorial Scholarship Fund at Scott Credit Union.

I may not be very good with words, but I know a great guy when I meet him. Chad, I only wish I could have had the pleasure of getting to know you a little better. But either way, I love you like a member of my family, and I'll miss you very much.

Chad was such great guy! He was a best friend to my boyfriend and was dating one my best friends, so I heard a lot about him.. all the time. But I knew him personally too. He always looked positively at everything. I never saw him when he wasn't smiling. He would bend over backwards to help anyone. I only had the opportunity of hanging out with him a couple of times, but we always had fun and there were plenty of laughs and stories shared. I'm so sorry about everything that has happened. I'll always remember him as a great, caring guy. I'm sure everyone else would agree.

Kim Romig relayed the information about Chad to me on Tuesday. Tyler played baseball and basketball with Chad, Curt Romig and others. We remember great times watching the kids play and being with the families. Our prayers are with you. Praise God that we will all be together one day for more "outings" together.

Chad,

We love you dearly ---and know that you returned that love unconditionally. We were the fortunate ones because we had the opportunity to give you a hug and say good-by and tell you that we loved you just four days before your death. Little did we know that it would be for the very last time, but we thank God for giving us that chance. You were a very special young man and thank you for sharing the last few years of your life with us.

I will miss your E- mails and the cards. Thank you again for the angel plaque that you sent me -now you are one of my "angels" - We will miss you.

love you, G-Ma and all the family

Andrea was the first person I met when I moved to Illinois. I got to know her and her family quite well and I was so grief-stricken to hear about Chad's untimely death. He loved his sister so much, and after her death I know his heart had to have been greatly strengthened in the Lord. I am just so glad I got to see him the few times that I did at SIUE and around OFBC for the short while that he was there. I'm comforted in knowing that he will be in Heaven next to his sister and brother. One day, we will all be together again in the kingdom of Heaven with these wonderful people that we were privileged to know for the time we did here on this great earth. God bless you Chad!

I think I'm still in shock that he's gone. Chad was just an overall good person. He always made me feel better when I talked to him. I wasn't really close to him but I will always remember Kairos with him our senior year. He came up and thanked me b/c he was in my group and thanked me for helping him see a different side of him. Chad, you will always be in my thoughts and prayers and I will miss you deeply.

I am very sorry for your loss. I am unfortunately staying in Oklahoma for the duration of the summer and will not be able to make it there for the funeral. Calhoun was a great guy and would have been a very good officer. God Bless him and his family.

I was Chad's Sunday School teacher in the College and Career Department at FBC O'Fallon. I was fortunate to get to know Chad pretty well over the last 6 months. He loved the Lord and was a great young man. I will truly miss him. He was one of the nicest young adults I have met. Every time I saw him he would have a big smile on his face and would be very upbeat. I will keep his family and all of us in my daily prayers as we learn to cope with Chad's early homecoming.

I'm still in shock, Chad was a great guy. He was the quiet type that you couldn't help but get along with, he was smart and had a good head in the time that I got to know him in ROTC

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the Calhoun family at this sad time. Chad was a wonderful young man who was on his way to becoming a successful adult when he was called away much too soon. I pray that the Calhoun family be given extra strength during this time....

Chad,

I love you so much, and I know you are with the Lord. There is a song that played on the radio that made me think of you. It was a Christian station and the song was about laying down one's burden and that God will carry them. I know God is carrying you because you are his child. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life, and allowing me to be a sister figure for you when Andrea died. I will miss you greatly and please watch over Jason...he'll still need you.

I love you,

Michelle Correll

We had a cherished and unique relationship with Chad. We find some comfort now in the knowledge that he felt secure in sharing with us, his highest accomplishments and sunrises; and also his troubles, obstacles and failures. We shared our experiences, both good and bad and reveled in watching him go forward in the dynamic search for "self" and his future, as HE envisioned it. Sometimes he stumbled, but he always stayed true to the forward path he'd chosen for his life. We'll both deeply miss those sharing times, but are VERY proud, to this day, of the man he was working so very hard to become.

God Speed, with much love from your uncle dan, Aunt Cindy and Dodger too!
