Darrell Hamilton Sr.

Darrell E. "Hap" Hamilton Sr., 78, of Glen Carbon, Ill., formerly of Granite City, Ill., was born July 4, 1934, in Greenville, Ill., passed away at 11:40 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.

Mr. Hamilton retired from Granite City Steel in 1993 after 40 years of dedicated service as a steelworker. He was a member of the Granite City Moose Lodge and enjoyed his days of camping and playing on many bowling and golf leagues. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, William D. and Florine, nee Maples, Hamilton. In addition to his parents, his son, Darrell Hamilton Jr.; three grandchildren, Angela Cowin, Kyle Pruett and Michaela DeGonia; one sister, Ruth Ann Saylor; and one brother, Jack Hamilton.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy S., nee Ritchie, Hamilton, whom he married on Sept. 24, 1954, in Madison, Ill.; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Pam and Mike Bettorf of Glen Carbon, Ill., Rhonda and Mike DeGonia of Granite City, Ill., Donna Hamilton of Staunton, Ill., Gina and Danny Reagan of Pontoon Beach, Ill., and Veronica and Scott Pyatt of Pontoon Beach, Ill.; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mickey and Larry Patton of Tennessee and Patricia Carter of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; one brother, Skip Hamilton of Washington; other extended family and friends.

Memorials may be made to the family and may be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: Friends may call in celebration of his life from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the funeral chapel. A private burial will be on Friday at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, Ill.
