Edward Sutter

Edward Robert Sutter, 93, of Millstadt, Ill., born March 26, 1919, in Millstadt, Ill., passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at the Columbia Rehab & Nursing Center in Columbia, Ill.

Edward worked at Morgan Coal Company in Millstadt until they closed in the late 50's. He then retired from the Columbia Quarry as a heavy equipment operator. He was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt, Ill., American Legion Post 502 in Millstadt, Ill., Progressive Mine Workers Local 76, and the Operating Engineers Local 520. He was a United States World War II Army veteran serving in Japan and the Philippines.

He enjoyed the simple things in life, like watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports, playing his accordion at family gatherings, mushroom hunting, making barbecue for family and friends and going for Sunday afternoon rides in the country.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Elvira "Vera" Sutter; his son, Ed Sutter; his parents, George and Louisa, nee Mueller, Sutter; his brother, Alvin Sutter; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Edward is survived by his children, Richard (Judy) Sutter of Millstadt, Ill., and Rochelle (Ron) Cosby of Kingman, Ariz.; his grandchildren, Chris (Andrea) Sutter of Johnston City, Tenn., Joan (Bill) Launius Jr. of Millstadt, Ill., Shannon (Randy) Nelson of East Alton, Ill., Jennifer Sutter of Millstadt, Ill., Amanda (special friend, Justin) Sutter of Edwardsville, Ill., Emily (Tim) Payne of Buffalo Grove, Ill., and Andy Sutter of Bloomington, Ill.; his great-grandchildren, Saffron (fiance Jay) Sutter, Adam Sutter, Allura Sutter, Trey Launius, Kasey Launius, Brittany (fiance Dennis) Manley, Katie Belchik and Gwyneth Payne, he will also be missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2012, at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, Ill., and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt, Ill.



Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt, Ill., with Rev. Darrell Weber and Rev. Craig Frazier, officiating. Burial will be in Green Mount Cemetery in Belleville, Ill.
