Eugene Frierdich
Eugene F. Frierdich, 85, of Belleville, Ill., born Dec. 12, 1919, in Belleville, Ill., died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Frierdich graduated from Cathedral High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He was employed by Stag Brewery, the Kroger Company, and the City of Belleville. Mr. Frierdich was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., and the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Holy Name Society at the church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Belleville Council 1028; the Legion of Mary; the Catholic War Veterans, Butz Jobe Post; and American Legion Belleville Post 58. Eugene was an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, boating, and camping. He was also a pilot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Frances, nee Klingenhagen, Frierdich; a recently deceased brother, Waldo Frierdich; a sister, Doris Jones; and a beloved grandson, Nathan Weilbacher.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Alice C., nee Hoormann, Frierdich, whom he married May 6, 1947; three daughters and three sons, Mary (Jack) Skees of Belleville, Ill., Michael (Cindy) Frierdich of Suffolk, Va., Sharon (fianc‚, Charles Kub) Frierdich of Madison, Wis., David (Carol) Frierdich of St. Louis, Mo., Gerry Frierdich of Belleville, Ill., and Robyn (Michael) Weilbacher of Millstadt, Ill.; 13 grandchildren, Kent (Mary) Skees, Dawn Skees, Jason (Tiffany) Skees, Erica Skees, Michelle (Mark) Holland, Jenny (Chad) Andrus, Brian Frierdich, Justin Frierdich, Lindsey Weilbacher, Lauren Weilbacher, Mackenzie Weilbacher, Madison Weilbacher, and Nicholas Weilbacher; and 12 great-grandchildren, Curtis VanHorn, Christopher, Joseph, Matthew, and Abigail Skees, Kaitlyn Skees, Bridgette, Xavier, Sophia, and Maxwell Skees, and Sarah and Michael Holland.
The family would especially like to thank Martin and Sharon for their compassionate care. We would also like to thank Mary Ann from Care Givers, LLC.
Memorials may be made to Family Hospice of the Belleville Area or to St. Peter's Cathedral Catholic Church.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral: Funeral procession will leave at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2005, from George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Peter's Cathedral Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., with Father Matthew Elie officiating. Burial will be in Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
