Dr. Maurice Hill
Dr. Maurice R. Hill, 88, of Edwardsville, Ill., born June 4, 1919, in Granite City, Ill., died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at his home.
Dr. Hill attended Webster Elementary School and Granite City Community High School. He also attended St. Louis University undergraduate school and St. Louis University School of Dentistry, where he graduated in 1943. Dr. Hill was a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II, and served as a dentist in field hospitals in Europe.
In 1942 he married Rita V. Kelahan at St. Theresa Church in St. Louis, Mo. In 1949, he moved his family to Edwardsville, Ill., where he had started his dental practice. He retired from dentistry in 1992.
He was a past president of Madison District Dental Society. Maurice was a long time member of St. Boniface Parish in Edwardsville, Ill., and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, baseball, bowling, horseracing and fly fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita V. Hill; his parents, Rolland and Cecelia, nee Lux, Hill; a sister, Eileen (Bob) Watt; a daughter-in-law, Penelope A., nee Thatcher, Hill; and a grandson, Gregory J. Hill.
Surviving are his 13 children, M. Joseph Hill of Edwardsville, Ill., Maureen E. (Gordon) Levine of Chicago, Ill., Dr. M. Robert (Dotty) Hill of Des Peres, Mo., Thomas A. (Bonnie) Hill of Highland, Ill., Rita M. (E.J.) Schwager of Waterloo, Ill., Dr. James R. (Diane) Hill of Collinsville, Ill., Edward P. (Kathy) Hill of Pueblo, Colo., David M. (Kris) Hill of Edwardsville, Ill., Dr. M. Jean (Dr. John) Schad of Shiloh, Ill., Judith A. Hill and friend, James Hembrough of Maryville, Ill., Christopher P. (Kay) Hill of Edwardsville, Ill., Dr. Gregory A. (Barb) Hill of Creve Coeur, Mo., and Barbara M. (Dr. Roger) Yusen of Webster Groves, Mo.; 39 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin Joseph (Gen) Hill and Dr. Robert S. (Annabelle) Hill, both of Edwardsville, Ill.
Memorials may be made to St. Boniface School or in the form of Masses and may be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, Ill. A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Funeral: A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Edwardsville, Ill., with Father Jeff Goeckner officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville, Ill.
