Oliver Meyer

Oliver E. Meyer, 82, of Granite City, Ill., born Jan. 16, 1932, in Granite City, Ill., passed away at 12:48 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.

He was a proud farmer throughout his lifetime at the Meyer Farm which was established in 1920. He was a dedicated and faithful member of St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City, Ill., and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He will be remembered for the love of farming and the special times shared with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Mildred, nee Vassel, Meyer; a grandson, Robert Terry Meyer; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Norbert and Glenna Meyer and Lynn Meyer.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 58 years, Billie M., nee Robinson, Meyer, whom he married Sept. 14, 1956; five children, Cindy (Mike) Western of Foley, Mo., Gary (Tara) Meyer of Maryville, Ill., Robert (Terri) Meyer of Granite City, Ill., Donna (Ed) O'Gara of Granite City, Ill., and Patty (Chris) Huskamp of Granite City, Ill.; eleven grandchildren, Greg (Katie) Meyer, Mandy Johnson, Kelly Meyer, Kyle Oliver (Thea) Meyer, Neil (Maggie) Meyer, Cory Meyer, Mallory O'Gara, Brett Huskamp, Connor O'Gara, Kayla Huskamp and Nicholas Huskamp; five great-grandchildren, Kobey Meyer Ronk, Oliver J. Meyer, Rowan Meyer, Violet Meyer and Woodrow Meyer; a sister-in-law, Sandy Meyer Hilker of Edwardsville, Ill.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Susie and Steve Whiteside of Granite City, Ill.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Becky Robinson of Collinsville, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews,, other extended family and friends.

Visitation: In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill., and from noon until time of service Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at St. John United Church of Christ, 2901 Nameoki Road, Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at the church with Rev. Karla Frost officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville, Ill.
