Dan Bilson Obituary

Dan Bilson
August 14, 1930 - September 11, 2022
Bellingham, Washington - Dan G. Bilson passed away peacefully September 11, 2022, in Bellingham, WA.
Dan was born on August 14, 1930, in New Westminster in British Columbia, Canada, to Joseph and Ruth Bilson. He became a U. S. citizen in 1942 and graduated from Bellingham High school in 1949. After, he worked for the City of Bellingham Public Works Department for 25 years and retired in 1985.
Dan was an extremely giving man. He was very kind and generous and would do many things for others without thinking of himself, especially for his family, whom he held dear. Dan was an active member in several service organizations, such as The American Legion, Elks Lodge, and was a Fellow of the Fairhaven Lions International, MD19. In addition to all his service with these organizations, Dan volunteered much of his time to his community. You may have even seen him around the holidays volunteering as Santa Claus.
He was an avid dancer, and Dan relished the time he had with the friends he made on the dance floor. You could find him dancing at the Elks Club, the Mount Vernon Senior Center, the Bellingham Senior Center, and on trips to Harrison Hot Springs. He had many waltz partners, the fondest being Donna McDonald, his companion and dance partner of almost forty years.
He was preceded by his sister, Bernice Burfeind, brother Leonard Bilson, son Richard Bilson (Wendy), and daughter Vicki Vander Yacht.
Dan is survived by his grandchildren Ajay Bilson, and Ryan and Adam Vander Yacht, and some nieces.

I have known Dan for most of my life, having grown up across the alley from him in the Columbia neighborhood 65 years ago! He often gave me a ride to high school. We were always happy to reminisce and have a dance at the Elks Club. He was such a gracious and humble man. May you rest in peace, Dan.
With fondest memories,

I´m married to Grandpa Bilson´s grandson and I would like to thank everyone for leaving memories here. We live in California, so we unfortunately weren´t able to see him before he passed. But we take comfort in knowing he´s with mom and Donna now.

The half acre our home was built on was purchased by Dan when he was in high school and sold to us in 2007.... He was a good friend, and came to our housewarming after our house was built.

My name is Michael Bilson. Dan or Uncle Bud as we called him was my father Len Bilsons brother. Len was my dad who passed away when I was 8 years old and Dan was a frequent mentor and father figure to me. I will always be grateful. He was a very good caring honest man.

Dan was in the Bellingham Fairhaven Lions Club since 1973.
He was unable to attend meetings but I kept in touch with him every month. I last saw Dan on August 2nd. Because he was not answering his cell phone I went to see him in person. He knew me and was glad I came to visit him. We will remember him fondly.

Dan was such a sweet and kind man. I'm so happy I got to spend some time with him share some stories. His smile and laugh were infectious, and he aways had a kind word and a clever quip at the ready. Wishing you peace and contentment as you now rest, Dan.
