Frank Morrow Obituary

Frank Aaron Morrow

December 15, 1932 - January 21, 2024

Bellingham, Washington - Frank Aaron Morrow died peacefully at home with his family on January 21, 2024, at 91 years of age. A brain tumor took his ability to talk and walk, but not his great smile and good humor. He was born on December 15, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Mary Louise and Frank Morrow, Sr. He is survived by his wife (married 66 years), Mary Elizabeth Morrow, their daughter, Joyce Marick (Phil), two sons, Scott and Mark (Eileen), a grandson, Dustin, a sister, Sylvia Abrell, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Frank received his BA degree from DePauw University (1955), where he and Liz met. He then went on to earn his PhD at the University of Michigan (1964), and later his JD at the University of Washington (1971). His early career was teaching Philosophy at the University of Kentucky, Northern Illinois University, and Western Washington University. After earning his law degree, he transitioned to practicing law in Bellingham, WA, until he was appointed Court Commissioner for the Whatcom County Superior Courts, where he served for 22 years, until his retirement in 1998.

Not only an outstanding student, teacher, and attorney, Frank was also a fun-loving, thoughtful husband and father. An Eagle Scout at fifteen, he passed on these skills and values to his children. The family camped, canoed, and enjoyed the outdoors. His stories and songs around the campfire are still in our memories.

Frank was captivated by the Pacific Northwest when the U.S. Army shipped him to Korea from Fort Lewis on Christmas Day 1955, and was delighted to move to Bellingham, WA, in 1966 to teach at Western Washington University. He was active in the Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Hobby Club, and Boy Scouts. In his retirement years he loved to spend time enjoying friends, music and the weather in Hawaii. Frank was a kind, loving man with a wonderful sense of humor. He left behind a lasting legacy that makes his family proud.

Family and friends will gather at the Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship at 2:00 pm on April 20, 2024, for a celebration of Frank's life.

I have so many fond memories of dear Frank. What stands out most were his sparkly smile, his wit, intellect and kindness. We enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with Liz and Frank, both in Bellingham and Hawaii. Aloha, Frank.

Mr. Morrow was the most eloquent speaker. He was the master of ceremonies at my Job's Daughter's Honored Queen Installation. Rest in Peace Judge Morrow.

To Liz, Scott, Mark, Joyce ......your father was a wonderful, spirited, funny, delightful man who always was gracious to all the kids that landed in his council. I will always appreciate his gentle advice, fatherly guidence and caring he showed for any kid or teen.

Frank married us and it has lasted over 40 years. He was an iconic Whatcomite who will be remembered as the truly human person he was.
