Jeffrey Ragsdale Obituary

Jeffrey Ragsdale

September 26, 1971 - September 22, 2023

Santa Monica, California - Jeffrey passed away peacefully on September 22, 2023 after a long fought battle with cancer.

He was an author, documentary filmmaker, actor, and a stand-up comedian.

He was born in Bellingham, Washington, raised in Lake Chelan, Washington and finished High School in Bellingham, Washington. He is the second of two children born to his mother, Dolores, and father, Milton. He is survived by his brother Jason and 3 sisters Patti, Terri, and Cindy.

Jeff was very athletic and competitive and as a child he won the Presidential Physical Fitness Award, signed by Ronald Reagan. He attended Sehome High School and starred on the basketball team. He was quoted in the local newspaper during an interview for saying "Sometimes the hoop looks as big as an Ocean!" Shortly after high school he worked in the construction & real estate industry for awhile with his father and brother, Jason. In 2000 Jeff received a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Washington. He studied at Columbia University, in New York City, in the MFA Writing Program in 2000. In 2001 and 2002 he studied abroad and lived in Guadalajara, Mexico City, and San José del Cabo. He worked for nearly a decade in New York City as a writer, editor, and actor, along with a brief role in stand up comedy. His extensive work and accreditation can be seen on Wikipedia.

Jeff liked to be in the spotlight, loved to entertain people, and was always looking for new material to share through his writing and works. He will be missed by so many. R.I.P. Jeffrey!

I was very sad to see Jeff's obituary. I had the privilege of coaching him in basketball during his time at Sehome High. He was an important part of our team and gave his best effort at all times. I had not seen him since high school and did not know he had been suffering from cancer. He is free of that now and I want to send my condolences to his family and friends.

Like a movie, we all have "stand by me moments" in life. For me, one of those times was the Summer of 88 junior year in Bellingham High School. Me and Jeff were addicted to basketball. We played basketball daily 24/7/365 together and when we were not doing that we were at Jeff's house playing double dribble on the big screen all night long haha (basketball) haha always competing in a good way! Funny. Corky. Sharp. Friendly. From jet skies to jumping off cliffs to skinny dipping at midnight haha we had a lot of good times laughing joking and playing basketball together. Jeff will always be in my movie xoxo
