Bellingham, Washington - Penny Lou Hinkel, age 77, passed away peacefully in Bellingham, Washington on June 25, 2024.

Born in Hollywood, CA on February 2, 1947, Penny had a love for performing and singing. She pursued this interest by majoring in Theater Arts at Cal State Fullerton. After moving to Bellingham with her family in 1980, she continued to nurture her love for music by singing with her church choir. Aside from her passion and pride in her family and home, Penny always had a full social calendar between her involvement with her church, Our Saviour's Lutheran, and the Whatcom County Democrats. She was a longtime supporter of local sports, attending many WWU and Bellingham High School games.

Penny was compassionate about helping others, hosting and participating in many charitable activities and events. Her concern and care for others were the driving forces behind her personal and political views.

Penny is survived by her best friend and husband of 55 years, Jeffrey Hinkel of Bellingham, her son, daughter-in-law and beloved granddaughter, Clark, Charmaine and Cadence Hinkel of Valencia, CA, and her son and daughter, Jason and Hannah Hinkel, both of Los Angeles, CA.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, John and Beatrice Anderson, and her half-sister, Judith Carlson.
