Philip Millard Obituary

Philip Ronald Millard, age 79, died of cancer on December 10, 2016, at his Mill Creek home, surrounded by his loving wife, children and sister. Ron was born in Everett, WA, on September 27, 1937, to Philip and Iola Millard and graduated from Everett High School in 1955. Ron graduated from Washington State University in 1959 and the University of Washington Medical School in l963. His internship in Torrance, CA, was followed by a 4-year residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at UW Medical School. Ron married Alice Ann Camp on June 12, 1960, in Ephrata, WA. Their sons, Philip Ronald Millard, Jr., 1965, and David Lee Millard, 1967, were born in Seattle, WA. Their daughter, Laurie Ann Millard, 1970, was born in Oscoda, Michigan. Ron's love for the military began when he joined the U.S. Navy Reserves while in high school. Following his medical residency, Ron served as a Major in the U.S. Air Force for two years at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, MI. He was an American patriot and felt it was a great honor to serve his country. While at Wurtsmith AFB, he was named Officer of the Year. The family returned to Seattle in 1970 where he practiced for four years. They moved to Bellingham, WA, in 1974 where he was a partner of BOGA (Bellingham Obstetrical & Gynecological Association) for 26 years until he retired in 2000. Ron served his community as President of the Bellingham Rotary Club. He also served as President of the WA State Obstetrical Society and President of the Pacific Coast Obstetrical & Gynecological Society. Ron was also a Clinical Assistant Professor with the OB/GYN Department at the University of Washington Medical School. After retiring, Ron and Alice moved to Mill Creek, WA, in 2001. His many interests included salmon fishing, boating, bird hunting, reading, cooking and traveling. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his children, grandchildren and a multitude of wonderful friends. His great sense of humor and compassionate and caring nature were qualities that endeared him to so many. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Alice; his son David Millard, daughter-in-law Kendra Millard and granddaughter Grace Anne Millard of Manhattan Beach, CA; his daughter Laurie Millard and grandson Charles Philip Moe of Kirkland, WA, and his sister Connie Niva and brother-in-law, Jud Marquardt of Seattle, WA. Ron was preceded in death by his oldest son, Philip Ronald Millard, Jr. in 1982. Memorial services will be held January 8 at 2:30 PM at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 10021 NE 124th Street, Kirkland, WA followed by a Celebration of Life reception. Our sympathies to the Millard family. Dr. Millard was my favorite doctor and the most genuinely sincere person.

My second child was due on May 5 (a Tuesday). At my appointment that day, we decided to induce. Dr. Millard was busy on Wednesday, Thursday was C-section day, so what about Friday? May 8. Dr. Millard is a Coug, and my husband is a Coug, and both began to sing a little tune "Hooray, hooray the 8th of May"! Oh dear... one of my sweetest memories.
Godspeed Dr. Millard, and Go Cougs!

Alice and family. I want to extend my condolences to you. Ron and I grew up together in Everett and he was a very special friend. We joined the Everett Sea Scouts at the same time and a few years later joined the Navy Reserves at the same time. I have many good memories of those years and his friendship.

I'm so sad to learn of his passing. Dr. Millard delivered both of my children. My first child was an emergency situation and Dr. Millard did an amazing job. What a wonderful man he was and I'm thankful I got to have him as my doctor. I will never forget him. Sending caring thoughts out to his family. With Heartfelt Condolences

Dr. Millard helped my family receive the greatest gift, for life....our daughter, who was born on Thanksgiving Day. We tried for over a decade to have a second child, and with his encouragement and a few tricks he had up his sleeve,we did it! She is now studying to be a nurse, all because of him. God bless you and your family, just as he has ours!

So sad to hear of the loss of such a special person. He was my OB doc with both of my children and he assisted in the delivery of my first grandchild, at which I was present. I also saw him from time to time while I worked at SHS when his children were students there and admired his big smile and how positive he always was in all situations. He will be missed!! I hope all of the memories will be a comfort to his family.

Dear Millard Family, I had the pleasure of working with Phil at BOGA where I worked as an RN and fetal ultrasonography. I learned a great deal from him. I admired his humor, bedside manner and honest interest in his patients.
May you find comfort knowing the mark he left on earth and the peace that comes from God's grace
Blessings

Dr. Millard was one of the finest OB's I have worked with. I was a new Grad. RN at Doctor's Hospital in Seattle. His kindness and wonderful personality always lit up the room. He delivered my first son who is now a local Police Officer.
We have lost one of the best.
My hope is that the family is comforted by knowing that this man touched so very many lives, all to the good.
God Bless, Nancy N. Sutherland MEd. RN

From the first time I met Dr. Millard, in the midst of a very difficult situation, his compassion & professionalism meant so much to me. As we ran into him during the next few years when getting coffee, he was always the same, a truly nice man.

I worked in the O.R. with Dr. Millard in Bellingham Wa. He was the finest gentleman, most caring doctor and had the most wonderful sense of humor of anyone I worked with! If you were assigned to his room for the day...you counted yourself lucky!
I wish his family peace and mourn with them the passing of a great man.
