Robert Hogg

Robert (Bob) Hogg, a retired Professor of Molecular Biology and Microbiology, was one of those men who was happiest working with his hands or reading a good book. When the retirement dream of owning a sailboat could not be fulfilled because of his health, Bob delved into new challenges – piano lessons, building Victorian birdhouses, carvings in various woods and soapstone, and landscape design. Raised in the Long Island area of New York, his family moved to Vancouver, B.C. when he was a teenager. Upon graduating from the University of British Columbia in 1960, he and fellow Agriculture graduate and wife, Loretta, tackled graduate school at the University of Illinois, and postgraduate work at the University of California. Bob then spent 30 years at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, pursuing research in Microbiology and teaching in the School of Medicine, where he was the author of numerous scientific publications. Bob and Loretta returned to the west coast in 2000 and enjoyed being back with family and friends, both old and new. Bob will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Loretta; daughter Corinne (Jim Vogt); son Rob and his two children, Jake and Jada; sister Jean Sordi (Dino); sister-in-law, Jeanette Reynolds; nephew Daryl Reynolds, and nieces Janet Fullerton and Kathy Groves. Bob passed away January 17th at the age of 73.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Whatcom Hospice Foundation, 800 E Chestnut St., Ste.1-C, Bellingham, 98227, or to the Whatcom Humane Society, 3710 Williamson Way, Bellingham 98226. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 28, at 11 a.m., at Moles Funeral Home, Bayview Chapel, 2465 Lakeway Drive, Bellingham.
A reception at the chapel will follow.
