Roberta Hanson Obituary

Roberta Rose Hanson

January 23, 1931 - May 5, 2024

Bellingham, Washington - Roberta Rose Hanson, born on January 23, 1931, peacefully passed away on May 5th, 2024, at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Vernon Austin Hanson, in 2007. She was a woman of exceptional strength and resilience; she managed the home and family with grace during his absences at sea as a commercial fisherman.

Born to Wayne and Violet Little, she spent her formative years on Dakin Street and attended high school in Bellingham. She was one of four sisters Betty, Elta, Roberta herself, and Linda. Universally adored for her beauty and warmth, she was fondly known as "the favorite mom" among her children's friends, always extending a warm welcome to everyone.

Roberta's love for nature was evident in her passion for flowers and gardening, often strolling through gardens with her mother and sisters, naming the blooms. Her bond with her youngest sister Linda remained strong throughout their lives, marked by countless hours of conversation over tea and card games.

Animals held a special place in Roberta's heart, and she was often surrounded by her beloved dogs. She endeavored to impart the values of simplicity and appreciation for life's small joys to her children, drawing from her own upbringing. Family time was precious to her, and she delighted in camping trips and picnics, with Birch Bay holding a particularly dear spot in her heart.

Avid skiers, the family shared many memorable moments at Mt. Baker, where Roberta ensured warm meals awaited them at the camper. Their river property was another cherished retreat, where she relaxed in the company of loved ones amidst the beauty of the outdoors.

Roberta's love extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each holding a special place in her heart. As she drew her final breath, she found solace in the knowledge of her impending reunion with the Lord in her heavenly home.

She is survived by her children: Jeff, Bret, Stan, and Holle, and her sister Linda Axlund. Jeff (Pam) Hanson, Bret Hanson, Stan Hanson, and Holle (Brad) Zender, along with her grandchildren Jeffrey, Britton, Nicole, Matt, Dustin, Sara, Tina, Rocky, and Lisa, and her great grandchildren Mason, Peyton, Amaya, Emerson, Lola, Brooklyn, Jack, Kyler, Mila, Noah, Isabella, Riley Rose.

A Graveside Committal will be held on May 22nd, at 10AM at Bayview Cemetery followed by a Funeral Service at Moles Bayview Chapel at 11AM with a Celebration of Life to follow.

A special thanks goes to Christian Healthcare Center and Whatcom Hospice house for their wonderful care given to Roberta.
