Sally Conway, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025, after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.
Sally was born on October 31, 1941, in Marion, OH, to Donald Conroy and Jean Parker. She graduated from Harding High School and earned her nursing degree in 1962 from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Dayton, OH. After graduation, she met the love of her life, John Bernard "Barney" Conway. They married on July 9,1966, in Columbus, OH, and shared nearly 60 years of marriage of love, devotion, and partnership. Together they lived in Columbus and Brecksville, OH and Pittsburgh, PA before settling in Beloit, WI in 1984, where they lived for 38 years. Sally and Barney raised four children: John "Joe" Conway of Duxbury, MA; Kevin Conway of Chicago, IL; Meghan Conway (Ryan Jones) of Boulder, CO; and Maureen (Patrick) Cameron of Boulder, CO. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Aidan, Holden, and Evelyn Cameron, who brought her endless joy. She was sister to David (Judy) Conroy and Donna (John) Bodman and had several nieces and nephews.
For more than four decades Sally worked as a registered nurse, retiring from Premier Care Skilled Nursing in Beloit in 2004. She was admired for the exceptional care she gave her patients. Beyond her nursing career, Sally pursued a love of fashion, running a women's clothing business with energy and style. In retirement, Sally discovered a passion for watercolor painting, studying with local artists and at UW-Madison. She created works that brightened her home and community and earned awards from the WI Regional Art Program.
Sally loved life's simple joys and often "took the scenic route." She never passed up a farm stand, flea market, or rummage sale without finding a treasure. She loved traveling to Ireland and many fall trips to New England or her long walks along the neighborhood creek path. Known for her wit, warmth, and ability to connect with anyone, Sally made friends easily and cultivated lifelong relationships. She had a rare gift for making others feel seen, valued, and important. Sally's greatest devotion was to her faith and her family. A longtime member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Beloit, she drew strength and comfort from her faith. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her family will forever remember her encouragement, laughter, cheering on from the sidelines, and unwavering love.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, David Conroy; her infant son, Luke Conway; and her beloved daughter-in-law, Caroline (Joe) Conway. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 12 at 3:30 p.m. at OLA Catholic Church, 2222 Shopiere Road, Beloit, WI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Beloit Art Center
