Alexandra Barbara Cohen 1943-2011 BENNINGTON, VT Alexandra Barbara Cohen, age 67, a resident of Gouldsboro, Maine, and Port St. Lucie Florida and previous long-time resident of Bennington died on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief battle with cancer She was born in Astoria, Queens, N.Y., on November 16, 1943 and was the daughter of the late Alberto and Alexandra Kloboucnik Naranjo. She married Leonard on June 26, 1967 in New York City. Mr. and Mrs. Cohen moved to Bennington in 1982. Alexandra was very involved in the Bennington community, She held various offices on both the Bennington School Board and the Southwestern Vermont Supervisory Union and had been the Chairperson of both at different times. She was politically active and worked with the Democratic County Committee and ran for statewide office. Mrs. Cohen also sat on the Board for the Bennington Arts Council. She was a very caring and selfless person and was always concerned about helping those less fortunate. She held great passion for cooking, classical music, animals, and the natural world. Survivors include her son Mark Cohen and his husband John Langton of Somerville, Mass., and her daughter Kara Cohen and her wife Kathy Buonopane of Salem, Mass. Mrs. Cohen leaves two grandsons; Alec and Evan and several cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon, October 1, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. in Bennington. Interment will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Memorial contributions may be made to Massachusetts General Hospital for the benefit of the Colorectal Cancer Screening Program at MGH Chelsea.
