David Beach Obituary

On November 16th, David H. Beach (74) of Shaftsbury, VT passed away suddenly at his home. His loving family is grieving his absence: His wife of 50 years, Pat Gibbons, his oldest son, Mike Beach, and daughter-in-law, Idena of Bennington, VT and youngest son, Bryan Beach and daughter-in law, Megan of Bohemia, NY as well as his three grandsons, Enso, Kyle and Logan and his brother Doug Beach, sister-in-law, Cindi of Hudson, NY and nephews Chris and Jim Beach. He is also survived by numerous other family members.

Quiet by nature but never lacking any heart, Dave carried an introvert's calm, paired with a dry, razor sharp wit that could leave you laughing with tears. His mind was remarkable: sharp and endlessly capable. There was truly nothing he couldn't fix, figure out, or outsmart. His incredible intellect was present in everything he touched.

Family was his whole world. He was the most patient grandpa and dad, the kind who never rushed a moment and always made room for questions. Loving math and science, he taught the kids and grandkids chess and the art of remaining forever curious. Studying and teaching them astronomy was one of his deep passions.

Born to a loving family in Schenectady, New York in 1951, Dave enjoyed an idyllic childhood with his parents, Ellis and Pat (Schaeffer) Beach and his older brother, Doug. Family life was highlighted with weekly drive-in movies and scenic Sunday car drives. Doug remained Dave's best friend for life. They often reminisced about their shared memories, especially an epic cross-country road trip in their sixties; the Beach Boys at their finest.

Dave brought his skills and talents to a variety of workplaces and projects. From helping to create the cement walls of a traffic tunnel to repairing hi-fi systems, as well as teaching audio-visual design at Bennington College and becoming a real-estate broker, Dave's love of technology and attention to detail emerged as true strengths.

In his later years, telescoping the night skies, engaging in epic conversations, and drinking a lava-hot Dunkin' coffee were favorite pastimes. Dave lived life simply, kindly, and with a gentle humor that made every ordinary day feel a little lighter. The twinkle in his knowing eye will be missed deeply.

In honor of Dave's wishes, the immediate family will gather for a celebration of his life in the near future. If you desire, a donation to the Village School of North Bennington is preferred in lieu of flowers. He felt he was an honorary member of the school for many decades.
