Herbert Beggs Obituary

Herbert S. Beggs 1927-2012 Herbert Samuel Beggs, a resident of Barnumville Road, Manchester for 29.5 years, died on Friday, May 11, 2012. Herb had a deep and abiding love for Jesus Christ and so, with his wife and children gathered around him, Herb has gone home to the Lord. Son of Samuel and Olga Beggs, Herb was born on Staten Island, NY on June 15, 1927. He was the loving husband to his wife, Joan, whom he married on Staten Island 59 years ago on April 19, 1953. Herb attended Valley Forge Military Academy and is an alumnus of the Staten Island Academy. He was also graduated from Colgate University class of 1950 and the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration class of 1952. In World War II, Herb was an Ensign in the US Maritime Service serving as "Sparks", and in the Korean War was a Lieutenant in the US Air Force with the Air Material Command. Upon discharge he joined the General Electric Company as a Marketing Trainee. He then became a Consultant with Robert Heller Associates in Cleveland, Ohio. He next joined Union Camp Corporation where he became Vice President Corporate Development. When he retired from Union Camp, the Beggs family moved into their co-op on Stratton Mountain briefly and then to their beloved home on Barnumville Road. Herb became active in real estate, starting his own firm "Beggs Real Estate". He was also a member of the Vermont Real Estate Commission for many years, serving as Chairman several times. Herb was a man of many talents. He played the piano and for many years did a sing-along with Joan at Equinox Terrace. He also wrote music, his very favorite song being "Jesus I Need You". He wrote a book on Real Estate called "How To Buy The Right Home At The Right Price". Another hobby was making antique window mirrors which beautify the Beggs' home and several other homes. He also enjoyed oil painting. He truly loved life and people and Joan can never remember him saying a bad word about anyone. He was kind and loving to all people, animals, and birds. Besides his wife, Joan, Herb leaves his daughter Amy and her husband Tom Strombotne, daughter Bobbie and her husband Tim Sargent, son Andrew Beggs and his wife Keiko, and daughter Mary and husband Jay Whitten. Also grandchildren Abigail, Emily, and Jonathan Sargent and Lia and Joshua Beggs. He was predeceased by his son David. My heart goes out to Andy and his family in the loss of Herb. His love for Andy and devotion has been so precious. He is now blessed in the presence of our Lord. May Andy and family be comforted as you mourn , for Jesus promised His comfort. I so appreciate the opportunity to extend my condolences, since I just learned of Herb's passing on to Glory. Bittersweet for sure. I would have loved to hear more of this wonderful man of God. It seems he touched so many lives with his gentle kindness. It is so good to hear of his talent and creativity as well as his accomplishments throughout life. May he hear "well done , faithful servant".
Blessings, Debrale Murphy ( Lancaster, Ma.,

You will be missed, but there is comfort found in knowing that one day we will meet again. May the God of peace comfort the family today and always.
