Laura Lambie-Wallace Obituary

Cambridge - Laura Jo Lambie-Wallace, of Cambridge, NY, died August 29 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. Born in Brooklyn in 1943, Laura attended college in Madison, WI, and lived in San Francisco, Guyana, Jamaica, and Haiti, before spending the majority of her working life in New York City. Laura retired from teaching English in 2009, and, with her husband Roland Wallace, moved to Cambridge.

The daughter of Max Sparer and Joyce Sparer Adler and step-daughter of Irving Adler (Shaftsbury, VT), Laura was an artist who worked across genres. In addition to her numerous drawings and pastel artworks, she wrote and illustrated her children's book, Daisy Discovers Dance, and illustrated several other books. As a dancer Laura developed a unique style and approach, but rarely performed. In addition to dancing, in recent years she was studying Tai Chi.

Laura was active throughout her life in movements for peace and against racism. She recently directed her artistic talents to making protest signs that have been used at rallies and demonstrations.

Laura was predeceased by her loving husband Roland Wallace of 28 years. She is survived by daughter M'Balia Bali Lambie-Boyer, granddaughter Chanel Guerrero- Lambie, son-in-law Nichi Boyer, adopted daughter Luna Miriam Garcia, niece Naomi Bindman, and nephews Martin Benjamin and David Bindman.

Laura will always be remembered for her free and generous spirit, her love for dance and the arts, and her love for humanity.
