Joan McConkey Obituary

Joan A. McConkey 1938 - 2011 LEE Joan A. McConkey, 73, of 600 Laurel St., Lee, and formerly of 6 Dogwood Lane, Pittsfield, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Berkshire Medical Center. She was born in Pittsfield on Feb. 13, 1938, daughter of the late Thomas Sr. and Armanda (Masino) Avalle. She attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1955. She was employed by General Electric Co. from 1958 - 1962, but most of her life she was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, crafts, cooking, gardening, traveling and her two cats and two dogs. Joan was the beloved wife of the late Donald F. McConkey, who died on Jan. 23, 2011; they were married Aug. 12, 1961. She was the loving mother of Michelle Holmes of Pittsfield and Patricia Urquiza and her husband Claudio of North Babylon, N.Y. Joan was also the cherished grandmother of Randall, Amanda, Erin Bates, Samantha and Kimberly Holmes. She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Avalle, Jr. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will take place Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Cemetery (St. Anne de Beaupre Section on top of hill), with the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor of Sacred Heart Church officiating. There are no calling hours. FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201 is in charge of arrangements.
