John Noonan Obituary

John Andrew Noonan, 78 of Lanesborough, MA, passed away, Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Born in Pittsfield on April 7, 1946, he was the son of John and Catherine Gregory Noonan. John was a 1964 graduate of Mt. Greylock Regional High School and enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1967.

Mr. Noonan married the former Donna R. Lucido on June 27, 1970 and recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.

John was employed as a production clerk for General Electric and Martin Marietta. He retired from Martin Marietta in 1995. Prior to GE, he worked at Simon's Market in Lanesborough as a young adult and was very proud of his achievements that would set him up for success later in life.

A communicant of St. Charles Church, he enjoyed mastering every Sunday crossword puzzle with little to no help. John thoroughly enjoyed playing the organ from youth and had an extensive knowledge of music and musical artists. He was extremely intelligent and very sharp when it came to numbers and always particular about his finances being correct right up to the very end. As an avid reader he had a vast accumulation of mysteries and international intrigue novels, that eventually had to be made into a library. Over the years, his thunderous voice and competitive personality could be heard throughout Berkshire County, New England and even as far as Canada as he proudly cheered on his children and nieces in all of their sport endeavors. His property and lawns in which his took extreme care were always perfectly manicured. He built his own rock wall to distinguish his love of his property and to ensure his legacy would always remain. Animals, especially dogs, were some of his most loyal companions and he was exceptional at training his dogs. Along with his perfectly manicured lawns, John loved riding on his tractor, doing home improvement projects around his land and sleeping late on a rainy, windy day.

John is survived by his wife, Donna of Lanesborough. His two sons, John G. Noonan of Marshfield, MA and Joseph D. Noonan of Dorchester, MA; daughter, Katherine G. Noonan of Lanesborough; two grandchildren, Everett "E.J." and Jed Noonan of Dripping Springs, TX. He also leaves his sister, Nancy Woitkowski and her husband, Ray, of Dalton, MA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Gregory Noonan.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, Friday, August 2, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, celebrated by Rev. Matthew Barone, Parish Administrator. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Lanesborough. Calling hours will be held, Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home, Pittsfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to the Berkshire Humane Society and mailed to Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

I had the pleasure of building John´s house and detached garage in Lanesboro and enjoyed the time we spent chatting. Both he and his beautiful wife, Donna, were wonderful people.

Donna. Sorry to learn of John´s passing. He had a great personality and I remember his beloved German Shepherd always by his side while I was building your house in Lanesboro.

Donna and all the Noonan family. So sad to hear about John passing. I have many fond memories of us hanging out together. We enjoyed watching our kids play Little League together. Right out of high school John had one of the sharpest cars around a beautiful white 64 GTO. John loved his family and had a lot of good friends.Glad I could be part of that. Thank you for the memories. Frank

Dear Donna and family, My thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time. My Mom Etta French used to care for John and Joey when I was younger. She cared for your family so deeply and I remember the many days I spent at your home as well. My deepest sympathy is with you all.

To the family: John was one of my brother"s (Skip Barnes), very good friend. As a kid( I was 11 years younger than Skip), John and other friend of Skip's would hang out at my parent's house. Those were great times!!!! John will be sadly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
