Joyce Ruppert Obituary

Joyce E. Ruppert 1917 - 2008 GREAT BARRINGTON Joyce Evelyn Ruppert, 90, formerly of Cooper Road, died Saturday, May 31, 2008 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Six months ago, at age 90, she purchased a home in Boothbay Harbor near her daughter and son-in-law. Born on Nov. 22, 1917 in Truxton, N.Y., daughter of Fred and Eliza Hoare Curtis, she grew up on the family's dairy farm in Truxton and was educated in a one-room schoolhouse through high school. She then left the farm to go to St. John's University, where she became a registered nurse. In 1941, she married the late Louis Francis Ruppert and together they moved to Long Island, N.Y. Then in 1973 the couple, along with their three children, moved to Great Barrington to purchase the Lantern House Motel and where Joyce also started a small antique business. Joyce was a talented self-taught painter and made beautiful hand-hooked rugs, many of which she also designed. She was an avid reader and loved antiquing for her shop and home. She leaves two sons, Curtis Ruppert and Louis Ruppert and his wife, Susan, all of Truxton, N.Y.; a daughter, Joyce Dinnar and her husband, Ken, of Boothbay; a brother, Charles Curtis of Truxton, N.Y., and three grandchildren, Louis Ruppert Jr., Raymond Ruppert and Peter Ruppert. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis F. Ruppert, who died in 1995; by her brother, Raymond Curtis, and by her sister, Dorothy Brooks.
