Loraine Devoe Obituary

Loraine Anita Anderson Devoe passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025 at the age of 94 in Lee MA. Born in Pittsfield MA on August 4, 1930 to Stanley and Vera Anderson, Loraine moved with her family to Stockbridge, MA at age 9 and lived in Stockbridge for most of her life. Loraine graduated from Williams High School and married J. Roland Devoe on May 27, 1950. They had two daughters and lived a modest life full of love and generosity. Roland died October 9, 2020.

An avid reader, Loraine could never be too full of information. She enjoyed learning and recalling her knowledge and experiences, often completing crossword puzzles in pen and telling stories that would be passed to younger generations. Loraine was a talented artist and leaves behind her beautiful sketches and still life paintings. Some of the fondest memories of Loraine include being in her garden, where her children and grandchildren would learn to care for and appreciate freshly grown vegetables. Loraine also volunteered at the First Congregational Church of Stockbridge, Williams High School Alumni Association and Recording for the Blind in Lenox to name a few.

Loraine and Roland loved hosting Christmas Eve festivities and large Fourth of July picnics, at which they always made sure to unite families and friends with their wonderful food, swimming pool, games of croquet or horseshoes, and campfires.

Loraine spent her golden years in the warmth of Venice, FL with her husband, where they became greatly involved in their community. Loraine and Roland were volunteers for many years for the South Venice Yacht Club and for the Berkshire Bash event, a yearly get-together in southwest Florida for fellow Berkshire snowbirds.

Loraine leaves her two daughters; Linda Lee Devoe Roberts of Jamul, CA and Rolaine Devoe of Lee, MA, a niece, Heidi Obanhein Alibozek (Glenn) of North Adams, MA, as well as four grandchildren; Melanie Loraine Ball Fletcher (Luke) of Lenox, MA, Brian G. Ball (Karlene) of Swampscott, MA, Tiffani Coleman West (Robin) of San Diego, CA and Scott J. Coleman (Samarida) of Jamul, CA. She also leaves ten great-grandchildren; Alexis and Matthew Fletcher, Giana and Jameson Ball, Liam and Aidan West, Gavin and Adalynn Coleman, and Zoe and Ava Sheppard and many other relatives and friends.

Loraine will be remembered as a generous and loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend - and she will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. There is comfort in knowing she is reunited and back dancing with her beloved "J.R." on their 75th wedding anniversary.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Landing at Laurel Lake in Lee and HospiceCare of the Berkshires for their devoted attention and care.

I´m so sorry to hear about the loss of Loraine. She was a kind and wonderful person. Loraine and I met in 4th grade and quickly became friends. We were inseparable during our school years and along with another friend, Joan, we created wonderful memories together that lasted our lifetime. In school they called us "The Big 3". We were so close, Loraine and I even went on double dates together. Throughout the many years we remained in contact with each other and talked on the phone to catch up on our lives. I will miss her dearly. She was a good friend, wife, and mother. My condolences to her surviving family. Loraine - Forever Friends!
