Philip Carroll Obituary

Philip Albert Carroll, 80, passed away peacefully at home on August 11, 2025, in Lenox, Massachusetts.

Born on August 15, 1944, in Hudson, New York, Phil was raised in the Berkshires and graduated from Searles High School in Great Barrington in 1962. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served with distinction as a maintenance engineer and machinist aboard the refueling ship USS Manitae. During his military career, he completed three tours of duty in Vietnam and was recognized as a decorated veteran.

Following his service, Phil worked on the docks in San Diego, CA. before returning to the Berkshires. He began a 25-year career at General Electric, manufacturing components for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle's transmission system. He later retired from Becton Dickinson but continued to stay active through his lawn care and snow removal business.

Phil had a passion for fishing-especially deep sea fishing-and enjoyed gardening, visiting casinos, and going to Lebanon Valley Speedway. He was known for his captivating storytelling, often sharing humorous and insightful tales from his life.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Valerie; his sister Anne Klein of Lenox; daughters Penny Bryans, Cindy Carroll-Davis of Lenox, and Lisa Malanson of Plymouth; sons Christopher Carroll and his wife Linda of Lenox, and Philip Carroll II of Pittsfield. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Stephanie and Christopher Davis; Brendan Malanson and Lianne Kourafas; William and Joseph Carroll; Paul and Ethan Bryans; five great-grandchildren: John Davis; Mason, Reilly, and Emma Malanson; and Sofia Kourafas; as well as nephews Brendan and Colby Klein and niece Alicia Chezem.

A wake will be held on August 18, 2025, from 5pm to 7pm at Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main St., Lenox. A funeral service honoring Phil will be held at Saint Ann's Cemetery in Lenox.

I met Phil in the early 70's on CB radio when his handle was the FOUL OWL. We shared many a funny moment back then. His sense of humor was unmatched and we enjoyed in his camaraderie. We reconnected years later at both GE and Martin Marietta/General Dynamics. Condolences to his family and prayers offered.
