Philip DeGrandis Obituary

Philip E. DeGrandis, Jr. 1944 - 2008 PITTSFIELD Philip E. DeGrandis, Jr., 64, a resident of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly a longtime resident of Dutchess County, N.Y., died on Christmas Day at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., following a long illness. Born in Bay Shore on March 29, 1944, Phil was the son of the late Philip and Marguerite Miller DeGrandis. In 1962, he graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School as a member of the first graduating class. He then served in the Air Force, attended Sienna College and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and graduated from Marist College in 1969. He was employed as a software consultant for Recapital Reinsurance in Stamford, Conn. Phil was a parishioner of St. Columba Church, a member of St. Mary's Council #4065 and a Fourth Degree member of the John Paul Assembly #2917, Knights of Columbus. He was also an avid golfer and loved to spend his days in Florida golfing. On May 31, 2008, in Winter Haven, Phil married Linda Milligan Desormier, who survives at home. He also leaves his children, Michael DeGrandis of Falls Church, Va., Jennifer Hanselman and her husband, Carl, of Westfield, and Matthew DeGrandis of Orlando, Fla.; his sister, Donna Barry and her husband, Ray, of Ridgewood, N.J.; his brothers, Joel DeGrandis of Bufort, S.C., and John DeGrandis and his wife, Marie, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; his grandson, Jacob Hanselman; his stepdaughter, Jennifer Klein, her husband, Eric and their sons, Joshua and Zachary; his former wife, Jeanne DeGrandis of Vero Beach, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Rita Cady, in 1971. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the McHOUL FUNERAL HOME INC., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, N.Y. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, followed by interment in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery in Poughkeepsie. I've know Phil for many years. He was an important mentor to me early in my career. My family and I would like to express our deepest condolences to his loved ones. We've all lost a good friend.
