She was a classmate in medical school. A dear heart, scary smart, compassionate, loved to sing and ski.
We kept in occasional touch all these years.
A farewell poem by Henry van Dyke to you, Susan.
Gone From My Sight
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone," there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
And that is dying...

Susan Yates was an amazing woman. She not only cared for all her patients in such a loving and remarkable way but she was always there for you when you had an issue and needed advice or help. I was thankful and blessed to call her my doctor. She gave so much to her community also. I know she will be remembered in so many ways and that is such a tribute to her legacy. Praying she is at Peace and we will always think of her as a kind soul.
Sincere Sympathy to all her family,

Sue and I were best friends in middle school and high-school. Our families spent many weekend days zipping down the ski hills of Cabrefae. Sue and her family were a big part of my life growing up and I will always treasure those memories.

I was so saddened to read this, here on the West Coast. During my time at FCC, I worked often with Susan. She was smart, efficient, funny and caring. It was a pleasure to work with her on many different things. I wish I still lived close enough to attend her service, but she is in my prayers. Rest in peace, dear lady.

Susan and I worked together for many years and watched our close-in-age children grow up. She was devoted to both her family and her work; full of good energy, intelligence, and compassion; and always ready and willing to go the extra mile. I am very sorry she is gone too soon and send my sympathies and love to her family.

When I think of Dr. Yates, I remember getting a hug from her after my 13 hour labor. I was 20 years old and she made me feel like a champion. She left a lasting mark on my heart and I will not forget her. Later, I was privileged to work along side her at NARH on the maternity floor. And also continued to see her for my yearly appointments. It was always a pleasure speaking to her. She was smarter than a whip and always made me feel good. Not too many people can do that anymore. I will miss her. Rest peacefully Dr. Yates.

When Dr Yates left her practice in North Adams, I and many, many other patients were certain we would never again find a doctor who took such expert care of us and who made us feel like we were more than her patients. She was a very caring and knowledgeable doctor and a wonderful person. She will be greatly missed. I have no doubt that God, the doctor of all things has welcomed her home.

The world has lost a truly remarkable person. She delivered my children and was always an absolute joy to be around. Dr. Yates was a person that you would want to have around your kids as you would want them to pick up all of the traits that she showed. Rest in Peace, Dr. Susan Yates.

A dear friend from high school, Sue introduced me to her room mate Carol Casbon at Michigan State and this year we will celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary! Sue and her family introduced me to Caberfae Ski area with many early morning icy trips north and picnics during the winter season and later in life we sailed our Hobie Cat on Gun Lake with both Sue and her father Rod. You are already missed and Carol and I will continue to toast you on our anniversaries for however many years we have to go before joining you. The world is a bit reduced for our loss but you've left a legacy of family and friends that love you and will carry on.

I have known Sue since kindergarten. We went through years of band from 5th to 12th grade. She was one of my best friends for 67 years. I will miss her dearly and envy those who were able to know her better in recent years. From one hardware child to another, see you when we sort nuts and bolts together.
