Steve Cain

Steve Cain passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025. Steve was born in Pasadena, CA, a fourth generation Californian. He graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Management and later obtained his master's degree from the University of Redlands.
After a career in aerospace, Steve worked for "the Mouse" as a founding employee of Club Disney, a job he thoroughly enjoyed and one that allowed him to share his creative talents with children and adults.
Steve and his wife Marlene, joyously married for 35 years, moved to Big Bear 20 years ago, a move Steve said "was the best decision I ever made." When asked what he would do in Big Bear, he answered simply, "Live!" (And play golf, of course!)
A lifelong folk singer, Steve could often be heard strumming his guitar throughout the Big Bear Valley, entertaining young and old alike. He recently completed an album of original music set to his grandfather's poetry.
Steve enjoyed being active in the community and volunteered his talent, time and dedication to numerous organizations, including the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce as an award-winning Ambassador and Toastmasters International, where he achieved the highest designation of "Distinguished Toastmaster," an honor which recognizes significant communication and leadership accomplishments. Steve also co-founded Big Bear's award-winning Toastmasters Club which he named "Bearly Speaking."
Steve is survived by his wife, Marlene, and four children: Leslie Cain, Larry Cain and daughter-in-law Mary, Whitney Owens and son-in-law James, Stephenie Hooley and son-in-law Patrick; nine grandchildren: Christian Cain, McKinlee Nuss and husband Jason, Carson Cain, Evan Cain, Garrett Owens, Carlee Owens, Colden Hooley, Rylen Hooley, and Cainen Hooley; and great-grandchildren Harrison Nuss and Ellie Nuss.
Friends and family are invited to attend "Remembering a Beautiful Life – a Loving Tribute" on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Apples Bed and Breakfast Inn in Big Bear Lake.
