Richard Carter Obituary

Richard "Dick" Carter, 88

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Richard "Dick" Stanton Carter, at the age of 88 on September 15, 2025. His spirit, laughter, and infectious sense of humor will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Dick was born on March 10, 1937, in Erie, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Grove City College in 1959, he moved to Newport Beach, California, where he embraced life's adventures-skiing, days at the beach, and driving his cherished Austin Healey.

He began his career as a financial planner in Newport Beach, California, which became the foundation for a successful 40+ year career. Dick was dedicated to helping others plan for their futures and took great pride in building lasting relationships with his clients.

In 1977, Dick moved his family to Santa Ynez Valley, California where he quickly became a part of the community. He joined Rotary, was active with the Vikings, and served faithfully as an Elder at the Santa Ynez Presbyterian Church. In 2000, he relocated to Bigfork, Montana, where he found joy in the outdoors - snowshoeing, fly fishing, and spending time on the waters of Flathead Lake.

Dick is survived by his three daughters: Christina (Rob) Carter Liebman, Jennifer (Jeff) Carter Hoyle, and Courtney (Damon) Carter Crowe; and by his ten beloved grandchildren: Alexandra (Logan) Liebman Merrill, Tyler Hoyle, Connor Liebman, Grace Hoyle, Luke Hoyle, Carson Crowe, Sophie Hoyle, Presley Crowe, Starling Crowe, and Juniper Crowe.

He will forever be remembered as the best "Girl Dad" anyone could have asked for, and as a man whose home was never without the love of a good dog. His love, guidance, and humor will be missed dearly, but his legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched.

He taught us to work hard, take chances, laugh often, and never pass up the chance to drive with the top down. We imagine him now, smiling behind the wheel of a fast car on an open road.
