Robert Utke Obituary
Winter Haven, Florida
08/27/1934 - 03/29/2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Utke, (90), of Winter Haven, Florida, March 29, 2025. Bob's loving spirit is carried on by his wife, Carol; their children, Cyrena Utke and Julie (Utke) Fink and husband; his sister LaDell and husband; along with his grandchildren, Shelby and Jaric Fink. Preceding him in peace were his parents, Laura and Walter Utke. Bob was a Professor at Ferris State (College) University in the Printing and Management before retiring to Florida where he loved to golf. Bob joined Polk County Schools to teach Job Readiness classes and was the coordinator of the On-the-Job Training program at West Area Adult School. Bob and Carol enjoyed traveling to new places whether in an RV or by air. He was a very devoted grandfather to Shelby and Jaric, teaching them and taking care of them in their youth. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more, who lives were touched by him. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at a later date.

I worked with Bob, aka Rapid Red, at Ferris for seven years. Bob was a very good teacher who truly cared for his students. My wife and I met up with Bob in Florida about 10 years ago, still teaching and helping students.

Bob was a fun-loving guy with whom I have a number of fond memories from our days traveling to Lions Club meetings and visitations. RIP Bob.

I enjoyed my web offset class with Bob Utke, so much that I made a career out of web offset. He was a character as you may know, lunch at Schubergs than back to class to print the Ferris Torch newspaper. There was a famous group of teachers back then (1977) with Keith Macdonald, Burt, and Bob Utke. What a guy!
