Charlie Minchew Obituary

Charlie Rondal Minchew, 91, a lifetime resident of Howard County, saddled up one last time and rode into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, July 3, 2025. We find peace in knowing that this cowboy now rests in the presence of his Redeemer, fully healed and home at last.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2025, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Big Spring, with interment following at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton.
Charlie was born May 12, 1934, in Coahoma, Texas, to Ira Minchew and Emily Faye (Swope) Minchew, in a farming community where he began his talent as a master horseman. He was blessed to deeply love his family and raise three children. He retired with almost 25 years of service with the Colorado River Municipal Water District (CRMWD). He shared a full and joyful life with his devoted companion of 26 years, Zelda Abbe.
A genuine cowboy, Charlie was a gentleman who never met a stranger. He loved horses, mischief, time with good friends, and lived his life with quiet strength and unwavering faith. He and Zelda enjoyed traveling together and found joy and fellowship in the Chapel Class and Living Longer and Loving It (LLL). Charlie's warm heart, shared wisdom, and cowboy spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is survived by his companion, Zelda Abbe; his children, Julia Hunter (Dwayne) and Charlene Land (Jeff); granddaughter, Cassidy Land; a nephew, Kent Minchew (Teresa); and grandchildren, Sonya Cheyne and Alan Heckler, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances Joye (Barker) Minchew; one son, Roger Dale Minchew; and his siblings: Delma Faye Jenny, Ruby King, and Jim Minchew.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com

Charlie was such a sweet man and one of the most genuine cowboys I ever met. He was always telling me stories of his travels and given me great places to go with my family. He was so sweet to me when my husband was sick and prayed with me and for us throughout that time. I will forever be grateful to have met a man as wonderful as him. The world lost a treasure, but I know he is in a beautiful place with our Lord. Rest easy cowboy, you are so missed already.
